After seeing haz's rear mounted rad I've decided to do it myself

I'm thinking like this with air intakes coming from the side windows!

Should free up some space in the engine bay plus shift some of the weight up rear!

WHY though ?

well positives i can see would be more room at front of engine for working on it and also more room to mount an intercooler

to much hassle and not for me though:laugh:

My reason was because it had the b18ft in there which runs hotter than a gtt and takes up a bit more space, and the front mount and oil cooler blocked the rad even more but it also takes away some heat from the engine bay. It does free up more space, easier to change the oil filter and simplified water system in the bay but now the c1j is back in there I wouldn't say it was any better than oe, just different, which at the time was what I was after and now it's not worth changing back.
On the downside you do loose boot space, and there is a little extra heat in the car but if you want to be different and that doesn't bother you then why not. I have a scoop under the car to get the air in as didn't want it too obvious from the side, but it's getting the heat out that requires some thought too ;)

Too much work for no gain in my opinion. If you needed the room then fair do's but you wont need the room.

It is easy for a 5 with a fmic and oil cooler on the front to get hot quite easily. the Std rads up to the job if you keep your ducting there and try to keep the oil cooler out the way. but i guess it would depend how big your fmic was.

The reason for doing it is because i like the idea of it! Puts some weight up the rear end so to speak!

Plus it looks cool but thats my opinion i quess:)

All the top track cars in time attack etc run it up the rear end!

Its to late now anyway ive bought the vents hoses etc etc..

I want serious track 5lag so thats the way im going!

It just means your going to have to stick a huge front mount on there to make it worth while lol :agree:

When i go EFI next year with 220/250hp in mind the big fmic will come in handy!

I'm hoping scoff will wave his magic EFI stick at it:)

yeah thats my future purchase, my wifes taking her test so im using the 5 as a daily at the moment so the fuel savings should outway the efi cost within a year.

Cheers :D i knew it was going fairly well but i was genuinely suprised at the figures lol
its 40 hp and 30lbsft up after the rebuild with 1psi less boost. I only really fitted new pistons and liners and a very worn 285 cam, i was tempted to not fit it as the lobes wer very worn but i thought sod it i can change it when i get another lol.
