View Full Version : Gt2560r .49 turbine housing
Can anybody point me in the direction for a .49 turbine housing to fit my gt2560r? 2.1 60fts on the dragstrip launching on the rev limiter with the .64 is no good.
I have found this on ebay but not sure whether to trust the chinese stuff!? Would a/r .57 make much of a difference to spoolup?

Mate I've got 1 of their rear housings on my gt3071r, if anything the machining work is better than you'd find on a garret example, for the money you won't find better
Fair do's :agree: still .57 may be too big and id prefer to try a .49 for now

one word........ nitrous ;)
Brigsy, I'm sure CR turbo used to machine a .49 to fit the GT range, not sure if they would be able to help you though as my contact has now left, still may be worth a call though...

Dude, I have not had anything but GOOD feedback from Kinugawa_turbo...
I have spoken the the guy a few times via email and he knows his sh!t. Drop him a message, i'm sure he will reply back with a decent answer ;)
I will make some enquiries steve :agree:
Gas would work and i will be buying a kit soon dave :D and mappable ign or even full efi if funds allow.

C.r turbos did indeed cast a .49 exhaust housing, I had one on the gt2554r. It has the same 53.00mm, 62 trim exhaust wheel as the gt2560r so should bolt straight on.
I emailed cr turbos last year and they denied any knowledge of this housing lol...im back on the hunt again though so going to ring them tomorrow.
Any other suppliers? People are buying these but i seem to be hitting dead ends?!

Weird as you like mate, I promise you they used to cast them for these rb units, I will see if I can find a picture.
a forum member in NL has just bought one. i'll try to contact him although it's a bit hard from Afghanistan!
Rang cr turbos today, got some clueless bloke on the other end "we will find out and ring you back mr briggs..." Still waiting lol
CR never cast the casings. The owner used to work for Turbo Technics, who have a lot of their stuff cast elsewhere, it's not Garrett though (doesn't mean it's poor quality, just saying). Kinugawa Trubo are part of Kamat, they don't make any of their parts, they bulk buy and put a mark up on their parts. I've personally met ''Ken'', they're main rep, and they seem geuine enough. They're billet wheels aren't exactly great quality though, very heavy.
Jon, an already cast .49 housing is going to be hard to come by. We used to machine them to suit the BB cores, but stopped a long time ago.

Yes, MArk who used to be most helpful has left it seems as when I rang about something last year I must have got the same clueless bloke. :crap:
Armtech launch control and 20deg retard should do it on a budget. I went a bit OTT with about 30deg of retard and could generate 30psi at standstill in a few seconds. It involved a 2nd TDC sensor mounted -30deg in the bellhousing and a change over relay. It would generate as much boost as you liked at the startline :)
I found a video on my PC from years back of me trying it out, just uploaded it for what it's worth :) http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=VDvZvjNZwZ8&feature=youtu.be

Im very very tempted to try this..have been thinking about this for ages. Will the turbo cope with it ok for a run down the 1/4 mile?

I remember seeing an advert posted by steveL on renault5gtturbo.com around 2008-2009 about the stuff c.r turbos were making years ago, ok they may have not actually cast them themselves (maybe got a foundry to do it) but were the only people at the time I talked to who could offer a proper cast .49 housing, also who ever the owner was at the time when I brought mine was a bit of a boy and well up for a deal with a bit of cash, other ex housings I saw on a rb unit I owned were a .49 housing but was made up out of two housings welded together.

Well your only using it at the start line, but I guess you could rig it to the full throttle shift. Dunno how well that would work.
Did you need to chop the bellhousing to fit the 2nd tdc sensor in the desired place?
Still thinking about this smaller turbine housing
Going from what adam said machining one to fit, could i get a t series .49 machined to suit??

That's a blast from the past! The camera works quite good;)
Seems to be a total no go this one. Been on the blower to owen developments, cr turbos and nobody can supply a housing or machine one to fit the rb core. Time to get the old t28 rebuilt and forget about the whole episode lol.
Turbo Technics?
Turbo Dynamics?
I guess you've already tried Adam...
****ter really as would have probably given the turbo just that little more response that it lacks on a tiny 1.4 8v motor....:disagree: for the money it costs to rebuild the t28 it would surely be better to get nitrous:agree:
Keep looking at gas, decent setup is going to cost me good money:crap:
Haven't rang tt or td mart, from what i hear rocking horse **** will be easier to find
That's true, i have just remembered what Glenn once said to me about the cost of his old nos set up, a fair few turbo rebuilds that's for sure
Defo worth a phone call mate. TD have always done me proud over the years (with the Evo as well), and TT cast/produce their own housings, so could be some hope for you there.

I can imagine a full engine rebuild coming after a decent application of gas, my block already has a 3" crack in it lol
Ill give them a ring tomorrow mart. Didn't know tt cast their own housings so may be worth a shot

If you just want to use gas to help you of the line, then you could always use a single fogger with a pressure switch.. Get a 2nd hand kit of flea bay n you'll probably do it for £200
You'll only need 25hp too
Havent seen one for under £500 dave? Keep your eye out. I may have changed my mind and go mappable ign with launch control?

Ive got an old .49 rear housing from a bb core in the garage, was going to send it to OD for a review as i think the heat shield has gone and that is what caused it to howl.
I can get the numbers off it and let you know brigsy.
It was Gaytec 250rb iirc.

Lol I can't believe that.. See you've got to be quick! :D
Rang turbo technics and its a no go. only supply full units.
Turbo dynamics have said they will machine and fit a t25 .49 rear for £100
They will fit my ar .42 front cover & wheel and machine the rear for £2-300. Happy days
He did comment the .49 rear that was available went out of production a couple of years ago (was aftermarket) second hand is the only option now.
The plan is get the .49 fitted and keep the .64 just incase..roll on pulling it to bits bank hol

hi mate dont know if this helps but the turbo it was a t25 we got off bluntys mate had a brand new .49 rear maybe worth speaking to blunty mate
He reckons he doesnt have any .49 rears mate i asked him last week. Im hoping my old on will go again to keep prices down.
Put this on the back burner now due to fitting another t28.
Here are a few pics of a t25 .49 rear against the gt series core. I don't think it will be able to be machined as the bolt holes would have to go? The wheel will probably fit with some machining though.
