Timing chain??

How slack is this once fitted on the opposite run from the tensioner? The tensioner side is nice and tight but other side is slack. The tensioner is unlocked and fully back.The chain has the same amount of links as the old one 29 in total. I just think this would rattle its tits off?

Have you turned the engine over since unlocking the tensioner?

did u fit chain and sprockets?if the teeth are sharp(pointed) on the small sprocket then its too worn!!

Depends which way you have rotated the engine, if you turn it clockwise then it will be tight that side. If you turn it anticlockwise then it will be slack opposite the tensioner.

Turning the engine by the bottom pulley that is, you shouldn't turn it by the cam pulley. It's only sprung loaded while the engine isnt turning, when you crank it the oil pressure will tension the chain much more.

I,ll turn it over by the crank tomorrow, as I used the camshaft. The engine is upside down at the mo as I've just replaced the big and main shells and thrust washers.

Sorted this, timing chain fault. Timing tensioner when new has to be fitted first, then remove retainer and wind over clockwise from crank. The retainer is to stop you pushing the tensioner in too far. This is the automatic type, but if you wind the chain the wrong way it slackens!

yeah wind it anti clockwise and it pushes the tensioner back in, this puts your cam timing out, so if your dialing a non std cam in with/without a vernier you have to turn it clockwise only.

Yeah got cam and adjustable pulley. All in time still, also the dizzy drive lined up spot on.

Good good :D pain in the arse getting it wrong then trying to adjust when the engines fitted lol
