Well.. ive gota 200sx.. s14a.. sr20det engine..

I want to know how to install a dawes device to raise the boost a tad.. but no matter what i do it wont go over 7psi.. SXOC seems useless.. so im going to post the question here

ok i have a s14a , with fmic, and larger air filter. The stock boost solenoid has been removed and im trying to fit a dawes device to bring pressure back up to 10psi.. however its having no effect, now im new to these and ive followed advice from somebody else on the fitting, but though it best to get on here and ask for some help.

pics to show how its fitted.

no matter what i do , 7psi seems to be all i can achieve

how far have you screwed the adjuster in?

ive tried it all the way in , and virtually all the way out with no effect

Unscrew it all the way and check spring and ball bearing not stuck .

yuppers, done that , all seems free etc, thing is its currently piped to the boost circuit, should it not be running a vacume ?

No ,doesn't need to see vac .Leaks ? Notice no jubclips on boostpipe or actuator .Check actuator isn't shagged ? How was the solenoid plumb in ?

I did have it clipped up with jubilees during testing , but maybe ill recheck for leaks. Any easy way of testing the actuator ?? As for the solenoid, ill be hoenst i didnt really see it, but i think exactly how this is now.

What have you done with the oe boost solinoid?

I used a HKS EVC 6 boost controller thing on the track conversion with the sr20det and plumed in between actuator and vac pipe on the inlet manifold iirc. I have disconnected the oe boost controller but currently still plugged in as I need to sort the loom of doom out :sad2:

There are a million threads about the SXOC just do a search :agree:

If the boost wont bleed off your actuator is probably very weak.

Well sorted now.. the dawes device has been put together wrong.. spring and ball were the wrong way round.

However now im running an apexi avcr, just set it .075bar for the moment to keep things safe, thinking i really need to get an afr gauge in there, as much as nobody else on sxoc seems to really monitor and work more along the lines of.. this is fine for this boost, this is fine for that , having owned r5s i cant help but not trust these assumptions :P

There is that sweeping statment on there lol. In general there are very few things you can do on the stock setup before changing ECU or chipping etc and well tested what the limits are. Staying within those limits and correct supporting mods do seem to work day in day out but FULLY agree. Get it on the RR or at least monitor for piece of mind

I am running a total stock S14 setup other than very short 3" no cat exhaust, very short non restrictive intake, I/C with again very short pipework, uprated plugs, Bosch 044 pump and swirl pot, tubi manifold and removed most things that were not needed in my conversion oh and EVC 6 electronic boost controller

Certainly at upto 250bhp it is happy all day every day - car does only weight approc 520kg mind

exactly duncan , im not pushing big numbers, just after reliable power to play with, one thing ill say is my engines very noisy, like the pulleys etc just seem noisy, its got very slight vct rattle but it just sounds very dry/mechanical.

Ive just gota work out how to get boost right, and understand what duty is all about :S

I have removed all the oe alternator / fan setup but check those and water pump not making the noise - vvt rattle very common but also be worth checking the oil spray bar is not blocked causing oil starvation to that side of the cam. Could also be the chain but hard to say without hearing :)

Boost iirc is 0.5bar (7psi) standard
0.7 (10psi) - 0.9bar (13psi) is as far as you want to go with whatever device your using to go above the std boost level / solinoid

1.2bar (17psi) the fuel cut kicks in with oe ecu settings on s14 and s14a, maybe s15 diff?

have you looked at the aftermarket managment yet..

im swaying towards a good chip, power fc was temping but now im thinking more along the lines of fit and forget.

Yep but based on the power I will be running did not warrant it. If I was to change prob use the Adaptronic with Scoff :agree:

Power FC are good but expensive, sure Mart was using this on his evo and said it was easy to use

Chip does seem to be a cheap option and a few respected bods who also do custom maps - stick to the well know good guys mind
