so time has come for me to get rid of the clio as i need to start racking more miles up at work and cant afford to keep it as a second car,
but what to get? i want something reliable and nippy, ive been looking at 306 gti6's and its rare to find a decent one and also punto gt's. anybody else have any ideas?
price range about 1500 squid.

Lots of reliable efficient compfy miles I'd say a passat around 2001ish great car.
If you buy a punto GT you will probs be under the bonnet more than the clio;)

I expect both are sh1te on fuel so if your doing more miles your in for some wallet rape.. I'd just go diesel and enjoy some good mpg and keep money in my pocket.. In all for a good burn in a quick car, but when you doing some miles, your just burning cash in traffic.

thanks for the replies.
what is this diesel you speak of? :wasntme:
ok so the gt is a bad idea?! but i want something nippy that i enjoy driving, im not going to be doing thousands of miles its just the occasional 200mile trip here and there and i dont really want to be doing that in the clio.
finding a decent gti6 is proving hard!
VW Passat TDI 130 sport with a remap. You'll get about 170bhp and nearly 300lb of torque. It'll be a bit more that £1500 I guess though......

There's a silver one near me in tadley for £1680 or something on eBay.. Looks clean, advert sounds good..
I'd rather have the 306 hdi, the girlfriends one handles well, will do 50+mpg and can p1ss 200k miles plus..

Promoting a unreliable Peugeot. What ever next Dave.
I've had about 5 306's of various flavours and all have let me down a lot. As much as I love the gti6 finding a good one is hard and I would always be waiting for it to turn me over.
clio 1.8 16v ;) ...still a clio ..mines has been reliable as fook ..and ive got my clio gtt as a toy now :cooter:

Clio 172. Phase 1.
Cheap as chips and good on fuel.
306 gti6, get a fresh genuine cambelt and listen for any ticking/tapping of the head., if all is sweet go for it..

306 hdi should never have sold mine, good on fuel with still plenty of poke. Cheap tax insurance, service every 12k and should be able to find a tidy example for £1500

172 is a great car. Not so insurance friendly I found.

As I said its not actually up for sale but for the right price it could be. I'd be looking at around £2200 as it is in immaculate condition..

Mine's £50 less to insure than my Evo :scared:
They are great cars. I got mine as a cheap runaround just to trash about in, and not spend a penny on. In the few months that I've owned it, I've loved it, and treated it to loads of new oe parts - Spending slightly more than I planned

Another vote for a denzil pasat. I had a tdi 130 6 speed. Not the greatest of steers but 45+ mpg weather giving it death or motorway miles. Comfy and relaxing.
iv got a c4 coupe vts hdi, boxed to 178bhp it pulls well and i get 200 miles to £22.. aswell as all the specs you expect from a french car, including useless stuff like lane departure warning lol
