Ive had a bad smell of petrol in my 5 for a couple of weeks now so i thiught id have a look today.
I took the cap off to reveal the gauge sender unit and there is petrol on top of it a mm or so ,
with the engine on a hear small bubbles (maybe sucking).
Then when the engine is turned off i see bubbles in the fuel coming out.

I did over fill it not so long ago (i mean right to the top).
Aux tank has been removed and campus filler neck fitted (years sgo and no problems since).

is there a seal on the sender unit ? , im thinking when ive overfilled it its blown the seal out.
I dont get a psssssstt noise when i take the fuel cap off.

Is the 5 gtt fuel cap braethable?
is there an open end breather pipe somewhere?

Any help welcome , thanks.
Dan.

Yeah theres a circular rubber seal under the sender. You need to undee the large castle tyre nut holding the sender in place to get to it :)

ideally you want something "H" shaped to fit the slots. Or tap it gently. Some of them ive seen are sprung loaded so you need to squeeze together the ends of the nut before you undo it. Just trial and error i guess !....Also make sure all your breathers are tight / fitted to the tank. You will get the smell of fuel if they are missing and or loose :)
