Wierd idle problem

Hey was out in the car the other night n it was running mint, came to a stop and it died, will start on choke and run but wont idle :mad: tried idle jet and replaced the seal, checked mixture, cleaned enricent chamber, also changed the seal for the float chamber as i noticed that had a tear in, stil no joy, any one any ideas?

Air leak on inlet? Any split breather hoses? If you have a dumpvalve is it leaking

Hmmm i shall check 2nite, dump valve wunt stop idle though would it?

It will do if the vacuum side of it is leaking, as its connected to the aei line

I had 20 psi vac last night and thats reading from same place, its allways around 15-20 so i dont think its that. im sure it must be carb related however im only a newbie so could be well wrong haha

idle jet ( big brass screw on drivers side of the carb) remove and make sure its clear.

I had the same issue and found a tiny bit of rubber blocking it.

I know you have probably checked but I have just had my carb in a few bits fixing an issue and no word of a lie I had to clean my idle jet out about 15 times before it would idle:eek:

I to was starting to think the issue lay elsewhere.

Pulling it out, giving it a good squirt with carb cleaner also the recess in the carb, if it happened after you had the carb apart to change the gasket theirs a good chance that it will need a good few cleans, if you have messed with the mixture screw and idle speed then you will need to make sure these are near the mark anyway otherwise it might not idle at all.

Do you have an afr guage fitted? If so what happens when it dies?

No mate no afr, it was on the list of things to do haha. going to borrow jonnys carb 2nite then if it still dunt run i no its sumfin else, im wondering about head gasket. i pressure tested it before and only gt 6.5 bar on cylinder 4 which converts 2 around 90 bar, but cylinder 3 had 7.5 bar. ibe been told should be around 150 psi?? needs sum 1 who knows alot more thn me to look at it, jonnys had a go bt he says hes abit rusty haha

Sorted, the idle jet was nackard sumhow, swapped it for a differant 1 and all is good :) dint think idle jet could wear though??
