If it squeals and is new you need to either tighten it or change your pump/alternator.

Try some french chalk on it first though (pool q stuff is ok but a bit blue/!)

Wother pump is new and the alternator looks like its 100 years old... :) What about berings in the alternator, could they make similar noise?

Thanks!

either alternator is old and bearings are knackered or the alternator bushes are very worn and it is out of alignment. I haven't seen a 5 without worn alternator bushes  (unless they have recently changed them)....:agree:

Check the width of the belt, recently fitted a new belt which was to narrow and sat right down in alternater pulley. From experience good width belt sits flush on pulley.

New poster! (less than 10 posts)

Strange this should come up... I was buying some brake cleaner earlier and there was a strange aerosol next to it saying "belt slip"

Give it a go ;)

Looks a bit slack to me that belt, I have always had them so I get roughly a fingers width of movement in the centre of the longest part of the belt run;)

The noise sounds like a slipping belt, because it's to slack, sometimes after a few miles a new belt will need re-tensioning as it streches slightly.
