congratulations john on all your hard work and now your making good power at only 16.5psi, proper job as always from the mad scientist scoff.

It was still making power on the limiter and needs the cam timing changing to bring the power in further down the rev range. Its very lumpy and drives more like a supercharged car at the min. We will need another day to set her up again :) and going to change the injectors too and squeeze more out to hit the 400 mark :) now need a different box too as the jb3 in it has been hammered and is now jumping out of gears :D so jc5 and clio hubs and shafts on the list next with maybe some logg mounts :) and i might look into getting a bigger turbo too if i want a little more power

Proper job!

That's some solid figures for first mapping. :agree: Now get that car out and embarrass some big money motors. :D

Now that would be fun!! Well done I really can't imagine some of the power you guys are putting into these 5s I see big investment in the brake area.. Note to self anyone with the big brakes like them leave well alone :)

....P.S....what Turbo are you using if you don't mind me asking? I'm after a GT3582R, but keep wondering if I should step back to a GT30-something.

Is everyone after very big power? Just had my turbo arrive today :D, a nice GT2871 with 0.86 rear housing, think thats going to flow enough for me for a very long time. That GT3582R says it can run up to 600bhp, trying to chase Scoff?

I'm running a really nice bit of Chinese kit  it's a t04e which cost me about £180 and that's with some ok bearings in only rated to 350hp aparently :D

I think on a good engine a gtx3071r would be good for around 500 hp and still keep drive ability on the road

My theory on how well the car went was the amount of head work that was done I read loads on it before choosing what route to go and the same with manifolds lots of research the turbo I put on I thought if its too big it hasn't cost a lot I can try again or if it's too small then I can change and it's not loads of money to put right :)

I run an f7r head off the 2.0l on the f7p block. The head has bigger valves as std and smaller ports than a Williams :) then I sent the head off for as much work as it could have :) to be fair I think including buying and having work done by a proven company cost the most out of the whole build.

Then to help make the head breath I run some nice cams :) the exhaust manifold plays a big part too it's a protoxide manifold that I cut up and adapted to how I wanted it :) 3" exhaust to flow gases helps 2 :) so its not just what turbo you run but how the gases coming in and out are flowing.

Is everyone after very big power?

Yep. Basically.

That GT3582R says it can run up to 600bhp, trying to chase Scoff?

Nope. It's a Renault lump but not an F4, or an F7, B18 or a C1J either for that matter.
The GT3582R I want is up to 650hp, I'm after 500 plus a hundred shot of (Direct Port) NoS.

....more would be nice though, like :)

so its not just what turbo you run but how the gases coming in and out are flowing.

Absolutely. I dumped the inlet manifold in the end and plumped for ITB's, eight injectors and four foggers, a 3" mandrel bent exhaust and a TIAL 42mm External WG.

You can build power cheaply
You can build reliability cheaply
You can not build both cheaply!
