Hey i fitted a new (2nd hand) turbo to my 5 after the cartridge wen on last one and she was running fine for a day, wen i try boosting now its like the car is hesitating and holding back, runs fine when im not in boost and it seems to be when i get to around 7 psi it starts to affect it. any ideas?

I'm no expert, but have you checked for boost leaks.

Boost leaks for one.
Have you checked the turbo did it have any play. Used turbos should be serviced first. Especially if they had been sitting for a while, the oil seizes internally and after a day or so turbos unusable.

Turbo was in good order, i sold him it and it come striaght off a car which i'm working on.
If its holding back on boost might be plugs dieing, worth cleaning up or even fitting a new set just to make sure plus you know there new (car drove to mine days before).

Nice, then we're left with boost leaks, plugs, checking dizzy if it's in need of cleaning and defo spark cables. Had similar issue where car was hesitating bad at 3k mark, it was the cables fault.

sounds like a missfire to me, check your leads are all cliped on, maybe give them a spray of wd40 down the ends, check dizzy/rotor arm and plugs... Dieing ignition parts often show there signs when first hitting boost i find.

Did you prime it before firing it up?

Sounds like misfire on boost check plugs/gaps king lead connection at dizzy and aei, plug leads connected distributor cap and rotor condition.

None of the above was the problem, sumhow the top of the carb ( the bit with the 6 or so slotted head screws had sum how become extremely loose, all fixed and running fine now. thanks again for the turbo mark, top notch :)
