New poster! (less than 10 posts)

Having a bit of a nightmare, bought this car with a few things missing etc and im just about there. All outlets on the Water pump are used up,two large outlets to rad,two medium ones to matrix, smaller ones to carb base. But,where in the hell do the two from the header/expansion tank go to??There's nowhere left lol. It's an early air cooled turbo model,Haynes manual shows the water routing as the bottom hose on the Header tank going to the manifold??then next in the chain is the carb heater base? Then the smaller thin hose coming off further up the header tank going to the carb base?Anyone help out?,this is all i need to get her fired up,cheers!

Haynes manual does cover this, i dig manual out later and report back.

Ive got the blue version of the Haynes manual and one of the diagrams covers my layout. But i cant understand where the two hoses join up to.It should be perfectly obvious but i don't seem to see anywhere left to put them?:rolleyes:I noticed empty clips on the bulkhead above the heater matrix hoses. The bottom hose from my head tank seems to settle in there but there's nowhere to put it in lol.The end of the hose seems to have to large a bore to fit to anything there. The bore of the hose is the same at both ends incidentally, just incase the hose is wrong on my header tank? The smaller top hose of my header tank seems to just reach carb base, but again, there's nowhere to put it.

Ok,ive now figured out that theres two ways ive seen the two medium sized top outlets on the water pump being routed.I had mine like ive seen in dozens of pics. But ive now connected the bottom hose of the header tank to the top outlet on the pump thats angled towards the front of the car.
This now leaves what was the heater matrix supply flapping about, where does it go now?Plus i still dont see anywhere spare to put the return hose to the header tank??.

Im starting to get the same feeling i had when i had my Gordini turbo, when you're stuck no-one knows anything about them to help out.

On a phase 1 car the return to header tank comes from the turbo, the heater matrix pipe will connect up to the water pump on the top (the 2 larger ports). I can't remember which one went to which but the layout of the pipe should show you

http://i208.photobucket.com/albums/bb190/robbocop33/20120805_124033-1.jpgI read about swirlpots/degasser units that were on later turbos,i just happened to have a couple of phase two ones(with different hoses on each lol)and on one of them, the hoses just happened to fall right to the water pump, top outlet on the header tank, and the other headed down towards the matrix. But,i now have nowhere to put the top heater matrix hose??(Arrowed in pic)There must be a t piece somewhere tht fits in as no matter how i put things i always have one hose left to connect! Here's how i have it just now,and incidentally, there's no mention in the Haynes manual of degasser units on early turbos. Here's the pic of how i have it now with the heater matrix hose arrowed i still have to join somewhere.Ignore the fact the hoses coming off the degasser aren't actually looking how they should,i had to alter ones but they are routed how they fell when i put degasser into place.

Its an air cooled turbo on mine. That's the way i originally tried it,both matrix hoses went to the top of the pump. But now i've figured out the bottom header tank should go to the front top outlet on the pump so this now leaves one matrix hose with nowhere to go lol.It always seems however way i put it,there is always a hose with nowhere to go!Im sure there should be a T-piece somewhere so everything will fit right.

Lol,that pic is different again from the dozens of engine bay pics ive downloaded over the last couple of days, plus that ones a water cooled turbo,i think?Unless the top header tank hose isn't going to the turbo? The hoses on that water pump seem to T off at a few places, can't see where they T off too though?Im dying to get this sorted so i can get here fired up!:)

I can see hows it done now, the top of header tank does to go an outlet of the turbo but if you got oil cooled turbo then that top header tank pipe joins onto the water pipe coming off rear of pump. You can see it in the pic, its the one with the bleed nipple in it and had what looks like new jubilee clip holding it.

The base of the header tank goes to side outlet of the water pump (one pointing towards spark plug)

So see the bottom hose of the header tank, where does that T off to just before the water pump?

Great,i've managed to find that hose in my garage, just need to get the one from the Matrix now that T,s off across to the header.Funnily enough i actually asked GT Turbo spares for the Matrix to pump hose but it's actually this header to pump one they sent me!:)Thanks for your help!
