I've just got back and I have to say I loved the weekend. Smaller field meant everyone was bunched up and it felt more communal and lots of socialising. I didnt go on track but it was nice to see the usuals and some new faces out there.
Also nice to see bob from cgb arrived with some spares and a nice demo car. The rolling road for me was the highlight and nice to see it being used all day by most.
Well done to all who organised it as it was a great weekend and I'm sure the antics will carry on through tonight.

For all those who didn't come due to commitments you really missed out :(

Disappointing nite,6 of us sitting round a camp fire at 12.30 am, totally dead.
Reasonable track but not as good as Mallory, if nd is here next year instead of Mallory it'll be a shame...

The tunes are going in the party bus but thinking its way too quiet for a ND. getting best original car :D glad that I got it towed to the track :/ just need to get it back to Essex later today.

glad to see the event went well and the few new additions went down well :) gutted i couldnt be there but i was a bit powerless on that one:cry:

PFC couldnt make it due to having nobody available but if any of you guys would like to send me your pics over and do a brief write up on the days action etc then that would be great and id get it published in the magazine for us.

tbf i think they only had 2 weeks notice unless someone had already invited them? but saying that it has been advertised in the mag for a few months now, i was hoping they could at least get one person along really
they will be along at the rr day in sept :agree:

:agree:

I've seen this several times over the years now. It's cheaper for them to get others to attend the events, take pics, and do a write up. They never have any intention of turning up/getting involved. They just want to publish their magazine as cheaply as they can, and make as much profit as they can.

Why pay their staff, when they can get somebody to work for them for free?

so what did everyone think of the track and overall the venue?

Although I never drove round the track, from a spectators view it looked quite entertaining. I'll deffinately do a track day there now.

Blyton is only 40 minutes from my front door, so for me it couldn't be better. It's got all the facilities needed. I had a great time! Roll on 2013!!

Sounds like the venue was more appropriate in terms of size this year (i.e. smaller), to bring folk closer together. Good stuff.

I don't think some realise just how few GTT's (the core car of the club, no disrespect to other models) are left on the roads. It's been years since there was a 'big' turn out at any event. RTOC is never again going to fill bigger venues, not for any other reason than a physical lack of the classic motors the club is made up of.

How many cars were there? If it was more than 100 then I'd say that was a good result. How many truly active members are there in RTOC atm who own a Renault Turbo? 350? If you got one in three to the same event, that's good going, although anything over half would be ideal given that it's a ND.

And better to keep this club small, high quality and well organised IMO. It's by far the best place to be for Renault enthusiasts, most certainly for 80's and 90's cars.

Would be great to see some pics of the day and a run down of trophy winners. :agree:

There should be tons of pics, marshals round the track were taking them all day and off track too. Along with the cars all lined up and the parade lap. :)

The track was perfectly suited to the 5 and massively more technical than the Mallory oval with the flat out 4th gear chicane then braking for a 90degree right hander with a bumpy braking zone. Amazing track.

Had a fantastic day thanks all for all the hard work organising it. Was good to catch up with everybody :)

I found the track technical but good fun, was hard to keep my big turbo on song & no lsd = wheelspin out of every corner lol. Still had loads of fun 4 wheel drifting the van though :agree: Free rolling road was a win too!

Who took the track pics? I seen loads of people with cameras.

I couldn't stay the whole day so didn't catch up with as many people as I wanted too, but definately seemed like a good atmosphere with everyone loving the track. A shame there wasn't more people there, not much the organisers could do about that but the venue and atmosphere I thought was spot on. Well done to dawn, steve, chris and everyone else :)

Really great to see the comments guys, be it good or bad.

I've had to ask people's opinions on the track itself as unfortunately I didn't actually get time to go out on track with anyone, despite lots of offers from you lovely lovely people!

I'll start a proper thread probably tonight or tomorrow so we can discuss the finer points and get some real opinions on various aspects of the weekend, all so we can make 2013 even better :agree:

Absolutely cracking weekend, great to meet with the RTOC gang again, I'm getting to know people better and better every year.

Great to see Mart doing the rounds with his Olympic torch - there should be some amazing pictures of that. Great to see the french and Belgium guys - 10/10 for there efforts, especially there cool heads when the Belgium chaps car bust it's water pump. Again 10/10 to the chap who supplied the replacement.

The weekend was fantastic from the moment we got there until the moment we left, Track was great for totally different reasons than Mallory and the crack with everyone was ace. Millie and Steve have got to be the Ska-king and Queen. The only disappointment was my car being an arse, but hopefully, thanks to Logg, Dave (276bhp) Reed and Big foot, I may have the answers to some problems I'm having currently (no pun intended:laugh:)

Roma was great fun to have in the car as was Oli (the oil slick) Ipswich despite my 360 deg outing - :scared:

A big thanks to the comitee, the venue was great and all your hard work paid off, true it aint no Mallory, but it was a more challenging track if not as impressive. Well done you lot.

For those who did not embrace the fantastic weekend - try again next year you won't be disappointed. For those who did attend and where disappointed, that's a real shame as when I'm at work tomorrow, I'll look back with great memories and I'm glad of that.

Got the car back without the aid of a recovery, got to thank everyone who decided to cheer when I arrived on the back of a truck, what did you expect, me to turn up in a 5 which works fine :crap: and thanks to all those who offered / and helped with my car getting it ready to head back home today which glad to say apart from blowing a hole in the exhaust as well it all went fine. Found some more things which I need to put on the car, plus now having to strip down to change over the inlet manifold which I will do one weekend soon. Will give it some love with some other new items I will get for it or got waiting to be fitted.

Very happy that it won best original car, granted I think I should have washed the car :wasntme:

Big thanks have got to go to Steve (im sure he organised the red arrows fly over) and Dawn to sorting out this great event and putting so many things on offer to the people who attended.

Was nice to see a decent amount of 5's on and off the track.
The track, i thought was much more challenging than mallory which made it much better.
The quickest thing on the day was Alastairs tent when it took off :crap::laugh: with all his stuff in. Glad he didnt loose anything:agree:.
Glad my 5 ran like a dream, there, back, round the track and on the rollers (158.5bhp@1 bar)not too bad, yet again she done me proud, it was her 4th nd in 5 years without a prob and has been tracked everytime:D:D.
Nice to see the french guys turn up (in some tasty 5's) Pascals raider, my fav! Closey followed by the red one.
Thanks to Kris M for a few laps in the old cup car, its going really well.
Overall a great National day.... festival. Only down side to me was, its bloody miles away from torquay:laugh::laugh:

I went to speak to him this morning and he didn't realise until he got everything out to make his toast, bless him!

Dave, mate, after going out in Mart's Evo, I realised my car could never go round a corner at those speeds without breaking traction. I haven't done a track day properly in quite a while and want something just to smash round the corners. I was supposed to be picking an Evo up today but insurance issues, not with myself, stopped that.

The S15 is a weapon though and looks the dogs:D.

Good to meet you by the way, pal. Loved your comment as you walked off,''tell Adam to stop being gay''

The weekend was very well done, organisation wise, it's the best I've attended in nearly 10 years. Dawn runs my life, effectively, and she does a bloody good job at it too:D, so I'm hardly surprised her and Steve knocked out such a cracking event. Well done to the both of you.

Track was a lot better than Mallory imo and also great venue. Think it is a step forward in terms of ND format and the issues / concerns raised around show and shine stuff is easy to resolve tbh.

I think its a great bench mark to further tweak and improve for next year. For a small club it really was a great event, well done to all involved

Thanks Mart, shame I didn’t get a lot of track time – I’ve been meaning to sort that drive shaft out for a while now, shame it went at the weekend.

I hope the people who got a few laps in the passenger seat in between the bodging to get back out enjoyed themselves! Brigsy’s better half was a scream… I was hanging the tail out round the little chicane for a laugh, and then once the tyres were warm we got on it, at that point (4 wheel drifting changing into 5th round the long wiggles after bouncing the limiter in 4th) she said, “I am smiling now – you can go faster if you like!” Mate – she is a mentalist !!! Sorry to those that I couldn’t take out due to defects…!

1. So most importantly: a massive thank you to Steve, Dawno and the team for a great weekend, a credit to the club – BRAVO ZULU. :yeah:

2. I think the venue was excellent and good VFM. The track was a lot more technical than the bland oval at Mallory, but friendly enough for beginners and plenty of passing places. Personally I think the track was perfect for our FWD cars. Perhaps if they painted a few curbs red and white it would make people feel more of a sense of occasion… Just one thing – can we have something in the South West, 11 hours to get there was an EPIC!

3. The atmosphere was great, one of the best RTOC events I have been to in years. Nice to put faces to names, meet lots of new people and to see some truly stunning cars and some big BHP turn up too! :agree:

4. R/R for free is another great addition. (Shame they wouldn’t run mine though, I wasn’t changing the set up for a quick power run)…

5. The competition area: I like the idea of all being able to vote, perhaps a flag/sign or ‘red tape’ area to mark out the cars being judged and set them apart would be good. I don’t think sour grapes afterwards is at all conducive to a low level club event judged by ‘volunteers’ who were doing their best in a limited time window.

6. A massive thank you to the flying tent recovery party… just gutted I lost my loaf ! Not sure how it happened it was very well secured. I owe you all a beer!:wasntme:

7. PS, loving Dale’s party bus you guys were cracking me up!

yeah it was fixed in 3-4 hours, we leant him a few tools, he then returned the favour and helped with a couple of things on repairing the fire damage and head replacement :)

Not sure if he made it or not.. He came over to me on the Sunday as we was leaving, he was having alternator charging problems.. A quick look under the bonnet revealed the connector of death was corroded, so I just pulled it apart and back together a few times and it done the trick..

Was well cool of you Kris M to sort out the water pump :agree:

I've just got back and I have to say I loved the weekend. Smaller field meant everyone was bunched up and it felt more communal and lots of socialising. I didnt go on track but it was nice to see the usuals and some new faces out there.
Also nice to see bob from cgb arrived with some spares and a nice demo car. The rolling road for me was the highlight and nice to see it being used all day by most.
Well done to all who organised it as it was a great weekend and I'm sure the antics will carry on through tonight.

For all those who didn't come due to commitments you really missed out :(
A2M

Have we officially thanked Bob??

I'd also like to say big thanks for this great event.
I've driven more than 2.000kms to get there but it worth it.
I've never ever seen that much GTT in one place.
That track looked good, but I haven't driven on it.

It was great to meet some of you personally.
We could talk some words with the french guys also. Thanks for the help in the translation. I have to improve my french.
I'd like to take part in their meeting next year.

And big THX to Red October who has taken my turbo tu BluntyR5GTT.
