Right after several years without a gt turbo I'm finally going to pick one up today, (that nagging need for one never goes away does it!!) it will need some work & i may need some help/advice so I thought a project thread would be a good idea!
It's a 1990 g, non sunroof, 70ishk has 1 prev owner a lady who bought it new in her 60's & is pretty much untouched down the the dealer stickers/number plates, mats & stereo ect. it's got full Renault history from the supplying dealer too. But needs the underneath sorting out!
Just about to set off across country with a pickup & flatbed to get her, Will take some pics as I go! Unsure on plans really either go totally oe obsessive or mildly modifiy (but nothing that can't be put back to standard easily)
I'm in no hurry as I've got a big disused cow shed that it can live in.
Thanks for reading,
Alistair

I dont think its been on the road properly since 2004,
List of work I can see so far, The underneath needs a fair bit of welding (have a good friend who is a welder by trade so thats no problem), Both quarters have rust coming from under the plastic arch's, the side stickers will need replacing as the door bits are all sorts of wrong! Im going to remove all the kit & interior over the next few weeks to expose the true horror!! The rad fan doesnt work & the head gasket is leaking very badly!! theres bound to be loads more when I get digging. But overall Im very pleased with it!!
Looks like an unmolested example, good find!
Hope it's not to badly rotten, fingers crossed once sorted and cleaned up should make for a decent gtt.:)
Looks good mate :agree: Nice find! Good condition gearknob, o.e stereo and o.e mats must be worth a bit on their own!
This the one that was on ebay for sale in lincolnshire?
Cat and Fiddle. Not long since I was up that way :agree:

Small progress report, Got it stripped down, kit off & interior out, found some nasty rust, the worst is around the passenger side rear quarter as expected!!!
http://i1148.photobucket.com/albums/o579/alistairgresty/IMG_0717.jpg
Battery tray area looks nasty but feels pretty solid, hopefully can just sand down & treat with anti rust stuff.

New poster! (less than 10 posts)
nice looking car mate, will be a good little project, the rust is all repairable so when finished will be a nice genuine car.
Good luck on the project.;)

Not really a progress report, more of a non progress report.
Found someone to do the welding on my car, think im going for inner & outer sills both sides, both jacking points, front chassis leg repair or replace, pass rear 1/4 replace from a donor hopefully, & 2 or 3 other small repair areas.
Unfortunately he is booked up till September (he mostly works on old vw campers & beetles, so no stranger to rust then) & ive lost my storage unit so the poor car will have to live under a cover outside untill my new workshop is ready.
Got some Taiwan special fog lamps & a full array of oe style stickers, tax disk holder etc ready!!
Pointless but some pics of the move to its new home.
First daylight for a yr.

Really hope the group buy boys & mike gt spares get some decals for the black car done.
Ill get there one day, don't have a timescale or anything!!
Great looking motor mate. The rust is nothing to some cars I've seen.
I'm sure if the decals sell quickly mike will be ordering some black decals.
My first 5 gtt was a black phase 2, I've always had a soft spot for them.
Looks like you're hungry to get her back on the road! :agree:
Yours looks exactly like how my tungy looks like in my garage right now. Lol.
Keep the faith and get it finished mate :agree:

No worries on that mate, Would never break it! I know I'd never find another one as correct, it's going to get sorted & kept to be enjoyed on summer eves & weekends! I've been obsessed with the 5 gtt since about 1993 when my dads mate had one. I achieved my dream in 2000 (See pic) stupidly sold it on 4 years later, loved that car!

Get ya fingers out and get it back on the road!!
Yep feeling good about it, this spring it's happening!
I've bought a new battery tray, warm air feed for the airbox & a standard size alloy intercooler for that oe+ Feel. Had the head skimmed, pressure tested & valves lapped in.
Wants are, some sills, inner & outer, wheels refurbed, correct size tyres, some side stickers, a nice exhaust no bigger than 3" tailpipe, some konis, a man with a welder & a full glass out respray!
Should be on the road by the summer ha!!
Mr Raider

Good to hear mate, hopefully you'll get time to start work again soon. It would be well worth buying sills now as these appear to have been drying up. :agree: ;)

Yet another move for the derelict 5, no work or progress I'm afraid. But at least it's now protected from the weather.

Get that garage squared away with some lighting, shelving and some paint on the floor. Perfect workshop to get this project up and running again! ;)
