have the engine out at the mo and looking at the subframe in situ.....started cleaning it up and i noticed a bulge of corrosion near the rear mounting holes,left and right side!!anyone come accross this before?

Yep, you mean on the top surface where it is double skinned, on the steering rack cross member?

exactly the place....there's a cluster of spotwelds there....did u fix or???

i'm going to get mine blasted and powdercoated if you want to get yours done at the same time?

I cut it out re-plated it and seam welded the whole subframe, strengthening all the key points, its now in Oli davies Pink cup car.

thanks for the offer robbie...but repairing it is the issue at the moment...i'm also wondering is the corrosion due to stress!

Nah, more likely crappy design, also 20 odd years of water being thrown at it.:(

seems a bit odd that its on both sides...same place!! there must be more incidences of this in Old Blighty seeing that the roads there in the winter are practically seawater!they only started using pure salt here about 5 years ago!!
