Heater matrix has been moved..

I've got the engine out of my 5 at the minute and I've noticed something strange.

The heater matrix pipes have been moved to the left (as you look into the engine bay) by about 2 inches. The original hole where the pipes emerged has been fibreglassed over.

Any ideas why this might have been done? I'm not too familiar with the workings behind the 5 dash, but on the Mk1 clio the heater matrix sits inside a heater box, so moving the matrix wouldn't be possible without moving the entire heater box behind the dash.

At a guess the pipes have been moved to make more clearance for a large downpipe

You might have hit the nail on the head there, mine is running a (slightly) larger turbo elbow and downpipe but not much bigger than standard

Wouldn't have thought it'd be so big the heater matrix pipes would need to be moved though

I'll have to see what clearance is like when I put the engine back in
