Before purchasing a new one, are there any tips on how you can clean and revive a 23 year old header tank of general discolouration and crap that has built up, or is it just easier to buy new? Thanks :)

Before i bought a new one i used descaler tablets and also dishwasher tablets separatly. Block the outlets off and put them in with hot water an leave to soak then wash out once cooled.
Will never get anywhere near as clean as a new one tho. :)

bleach would probably be your best bet. submerge it in a bucket of bleach and water cover it over and leave for a couple of days

Or just pay £20 and get a lovely new one :)

What colour cap should the R5 turbo use? Blue or brown?

I'll be ordering a new one at the start of next month :)

Oh I didn't know there were two different colour blue

Or do you mean a solid blue cap like this:

Phase one brown cap. Phase two light blue cap. Different pressures due to the differences in the coolant systems between versions.

Any ideas what the differences are?

Mine is a Ph2 so i'll need the light blue cap. Pretty sure my old header tank has a light blue cap on it, will have a look.

I'll try and get a new one, fairly sure the supplier on eBay can supply either cap colour. :agree:

Just different release pressures mate. Im not sure on the brown one, but the blue is 1.6bar. I think it holds more pressure than the brown tho. The guy on ebay is a member on here, he did the tanks as a group buy a while back and put what was left on ebay.

Contact him direct;
