View Full Version : Sticking throttle pedal

My throttle pedal has started to stick around half way I can lift it off and on and it's ok then it sticks again!! Very annoying,does anyone now a cure? Thanks guys :scratch:

cable sticking, throttle linkage mechanism(if you have this setup)
Accelerator jet arm can sometimes jam if its a little bent.
Also might sound daft but i get alot of customers cars in with stupid floor mats that stick to the pedals sometimes.

Funny enough I was looking at one of them !! I will and a new cable that should solve it

I'm unsure if it's the same on the 5 but I had the same issue on my 106 GTi, it was revving crazy high with a slight tap of the throttle. It turned out actually to be an issue in the engine where the cable went into a box, something had got stuck between the hole it went into and the cable itself causing it to stick. I love free fixes :D

the old origional cable might have come out of the plastic bit at the pedal.....push it back in and cable tie....i dont think u can buy a steel type outer cable!!!:(

make sure the rod on the carb isnt sticking.. not sure what it is.. think its for the secondary..? the bit next to where one of the pipes go.. someone help me out.. :wasntme:

also make sure the nut that holds the cable sheath isn't too tight pinching inner cable

And spray some grease down the sheath, water can get in there and cause issues
