Engine oil for first start up

I am getting ready to start my car for the first time it has no oil in it at all and has a new rad/oil cooler how much oil do i need? And do i have to bleed oil system any advice i what i should be doing thanks

No need to bleed it. Is it a new build or already run in? 5ltrs will be more than enough

Its a new build mate should i wind it over with king lead off to prime new turbo and check i am getting oil pressure

always a good idea on a new build, minimise the risk of damage should any error have been made :)

Yea that was my thinking every pipes new so could winde it over quite alot then check for leaks

on a new build i generaly take out fuse for fuel pump or dissconnect fuel line, then remove plugs so that there is no compresion then wind it over on the starter to prime the oil system and to check it builds pressure

is the oil pump packed with grease if its a new build? helps it to suck the oil up from the sump if its dry

New rings aswell? If so you need to run it in on mineral oil before going to semi sythintic for daily use

old wives tale... run it up on cheap semi till warm, dump oil, new filter, then decent oil and spank it... running in is for girls :laugh:

When I say run in I mean start it, run up to temp, change oil and filter, drive for 50miles driving up the rev range then letting it run down in gear continuesly, then dump oil and filter then fill with semi sythin and spank the fook out of it

Have you put a new cam in it? (Piper/Kent) If so I'd avoid turning it over on the starter too much as it can damage the lobes.

Yes mate a new piper 270 cam whats the best way in your opinion then mate? Thanks for advise

Ideally take the dizzy off and stick a length of wood into the drive gear and attach the other end to a hand drill. This will build up oil pressure without having to start the engine.

Or

Turn it over until the oil pressure light goes out. Leave the car on a fast idle (1500-2000 rpm) for 20 minutes to bed the cam in.
