This is test advert. There isn't really a car for sale here. Sorry.

Can we not atleast charge non members £2.50 to look at cars for sale and create a fund for the paying members? And maybe get another raffled 5 to a lucky member who would appreciate it? For £2.50 they can type sh1te at there own expense..

Just my tuppence worth but.... Alot of people will pay the annual membership fee to get access to the sales section. I know I have done in the past. Maybe non members having access will generate new interest in the forum but it could also have an affect on the clubs finances.

Well I learned from that that a non member can create a name for their post. I didn't see that when I did the test posts.

Alas, it appears that the vB software doesn't allow a fee as suggested. It would be too much trouble to do that manually.

This is the only folder that is visible. Not the others. Not even to view by registered users I think, but I'd have to check that.

So, someone comes here, sees a shed load of other adds in the folders marked 'members only' and joins to see them.

Previously, the whole classifieds section was hidden from view.

I can switch off posts from non members but that would mean the only way for a buyer to contact a member selling would be a mobile phone number or email address posted into the add.

Another way might be to have some car ads on show, but no contact methods. Then someone seeing something they liked would pay the £25 to join and contact the seller.

I.e £2.50 per carLike piston heads do (theirs is £10?). I would have a go at that I think, but we'd need some software to do it and someone to fit it to the server and configure it.

The consideration would be that we may lose more money that we make as people sometimes currently pay £25 to sell.

Advertising on Piston heads or eBay must reach a LOT more people that advertising on here does and it would nice if we could reach a much wider audience.

I'm far from experienced in computers but would it not just be a matter of wording on google? As when I was looking for my five I google searched "renault 5 gt turbo" and piston heads came up and wallar!! I own a 5..

On the flip side Ian if people advertise on here and piston heads they might share links to this site for more info etc, in effect creating more awareness of the club :)

Is there a way of doing £15 for a 6 month trial, that way the £10 renewal will then do the next year. So gives them time to search, dont seem such a big amount for people?

I think that this is highlighting that a free board is open to spamming.

Hopefully it's a quick witted member demonstrating this but it could be genuine spam. Are the flood gates open?

I'd guess genuine spam. We get a fair bit of it.

At least they are finding this little board tucked away like it is. Though I wonder if it's a human or a bot.

We'll have to see how it goes and expect a bit of spam, which we'll delete. But it's it's more than we can be bothered with then I'll have to make this board 'registered users' only. Which is still free. Though they still spam those boards, but it might reduce it here.

So gives them time to search, dont seem such a big amount for people?I think we considered this some years ago but the best Scoff could get was the two tier system we have. This version of vB only has one tier so he did well to make it do two.

Different software would be needed to do more.

OK, so there was a lot of new spam.

I've now switched off posting for non registered non members. They will have to register to post.
