Hi Guys,

I've just swapped an engine from my old car to my new shell and i'm wondering what i have to tell the DVLA,

I've tried to read up a bit but most info is about changing engine size, I've just done a straight C1j swap,
I'm led to believe i need a headed letter from a garage stating the engine change was done by them and/or a receipt for the engine, I have neither of these as i fitted the engine myself from a car i owned already !!

I was thinking of just sending the log book off with the new engine number in the 'changes box' but i don't want to open a can of worms with the DeViLA.

Got any ideas ? :)

I've swapped engines on numerous motors or you could say (replaced)

Unless it's a non standard engine for that make/model of car than as far as I know the dvla dnt need notifiying.

Hope this helps. I do know if you intend in putting say an f7r into a 5 then engine numbers and cubic capacity will need to be relayed back to the dvla and insurance companys ect.. But that's purely because that's not engine the car was intended to have.

If the car is with all its paper work it is nice to have all the numbers tally up.

ring the dvla and ask them, there must be some provision for people doing it themselves, you will probably need a letter from an MOT station or similar, very much doubt it will need an engineers report as its the same engine type as original so fitted as the manufacturer intended :)

have this all the time in the vauxhall world, if your changing like for like i.e 14 turbo, for a 1.4 turbo engine then all you need to do is send the logbook of with the new engine number
however, if you are changing the engine from a 1.4 to a 2.0 turbo etc you will need to fill in the new engine number and change the cc on the logbook and send it off with a covering letter from a garage to say the work done is to a certain standard
if you send it without, they just send it back.
hope this is of help
