What is the timescale between making a purchase to having the plate on the car, has anyone bought a private plate :)

I cant remember the order time as my girlfriend bought it for me but once i had the paperwork, it was as simple as just going into my local DVLA and proving the car was insured and MOT, took like twenty minutes, they even give you your new tax disc.

Then twenty minutes in A1 Motors shop getting new plates made up.

Dont know if any of that will help you though! :crap:

Hi, I brought mine from the DLVA website; it took 3 days for the paper work to be delivered (ownership of the plate). I then went to the local DVLA centre and filled in the form to change the plates over; they then gave me a letter so I could get the plates made. I took under a week, from buying them till having them fitted on the car. Only thing left to do was left the insuarnce company know.

Shweeet cheers Mike that's good enough for me, my local DVLA office is 30 mins away. I really want a private plate, for some strange reason it's something i've always wanted to do and i've seen 1 i like ;)

I wasn't sure about them until I saw the right one and alot of people that have seen it agree it sets the car off.
Good luck!

It was the last thing I thought of, but unless you do, all the paper work ins't correct, so if Mr. Policeman stops you, he could be funny about it.

Just spoke to the DVLA, all bar buying it :D

I can buy it tonight by card

They'll process it and have it in the post within 48hrs

It will be sent to me within 10 days

I can then go to my local DVLA with the logbook and MOT form and have it transfered the same day, also mentioned letting the insurance company know too

Then have the new plates made and fitted also the same day

So if purchased tonight i could have it all done and dusted by the end of next week providing the postal service is ok

Thats great news! The post is already starting to slow down! I have post a few parts this last week first class and some have taken up to three days to arrive.

Regular post isn't too bad at the mo, but the packets/parcels are really starting to pick up. We've had packets that have been sitting in our place since the start of the week. Next week is when the crap really starts hitting the fan.

So chop chop Rickaaayyy, get it ordered.
