so been really interested in anti lag. can it only be used on injection cars? i understand how it works. im guessing the boys running 1.8 16v turbo lumps could do this?

just interesting. woundering if anyone has any knowledge on this?:D

I don't think you can unless you get something like adaptronic on the car as fuel is needed to be pt into the exhaust manifold when not Nader load to keep the turbo spinning.

ignition timing has to be fiddled with too so deffo need efi

With standalone management it can easily be done, quite how long the standard exhaust valves and turbo rear oil seal would last for is a different question...

its the manifold gaskets that get blown apart. - ask scoff :)

I remember scoffs old skool anti lag setup on carb:agree:

the lag is there for a reason...

it gives time for all the girls you want to impress to hear the turbo spool and see you looking all gangsta before you fly off at warp speed :cooter::laugh:

I managed it by drilling the gearbox bellhousing and installing another tdc / crank sensor at -30deg then used a relay to switch over from the standard sensor to the retarded one. I could generate 2bar of boost on the spot easy. It made quite a noise with a lot of drama from the exhaust. The relay was wired to a clutch switch and a button to arm it.

I tried it at santa pod and even with my m/t drag slicks it would instantly light the wheels and the car would not motivate. I learnt that some lag isn't a bad thing in drag racing when you don't have ultimate traction and when you are not employing electronic engine management with launch & traction control.

The exhaust manifold gasket did not last long as sparkie recalls, maybe a MLS or pressed type would be OK ? ALS was not much use to me but may be usefull in a rally or sprint R5 maybe, but even then it should be way way down your list of things to do!

Awesome... Like the lateral thinking to run it on carb!! Tbh doubted it could be done without efi, assuming as on strip didn't see too much of long term effect on exhaust valves? Used to run antilag on a Nissan GTiR and went through sodium valves like chocolate...

I recall the noise and drama of it all

I also recall the state of the gasket afterwards;)

Oli, yes only a few seconds at a time for me, to overcome the lag of the cosworth T3 I used at the time. It was too effective at that, launch control would have been better in hindsight.

quality :D i wish i had herd that! anti lag on a five! get in :agree: but does sound like a nightmare. i love the noise and i could imagen it would be alot of fun! but as scoff says very much so a last priority .
