I agree with the post above.

You sure the HT leads are in the correct position?

cheers guys:agree:

yea leads are spot on
as you face the engine from the front with no bonnet

top 1st
left 2nd
bottom 4th
right 3rd

may sound stupid but how do i rotate the dizzy 180? as it only alines in one way?

It's the sprocket that is driven by the camshaft.
Just pull the dizzy assy off and rotate it using a pincer. (dictionairy said this was the correct translation?)

ok so tried an idea from the thread alister put up

i swapped 1-4 2-3 etc and now getting blow back through the carb?

Scotty - you can still be 180 degrees out. Get piston 1 at tdc (on the compression stroke;) don't go off the flywheel markings and see where the rotor arm is pointing. you may find you are still 180 degs oot.

ok i get what your saying, so i rotate until the first piston hits the top. so now im here and the dizzy is 180 degrees out i pull out the dizzy rotar and turn around 180degrees?

sorry bloody rookie aint i :D

Blow back through carb is classic sound of Dizzy gear being out / HT leads.

As you look at the windscreen:

Top (nearest carb) = No 1 (Waterpump end)
Bottom = No 4 (Flywheel end)
Left = No 2
Right = No 3.

Check you are getting wet plugs when you are cranking on choke, also try some easy start down the carb to see if it is a fuel issue.

Check you fuel pump is running.

Are you getting any signs of life out of it?

Na, na - no Rookie fella - just learning.

The piston hits tdc in 1 complete cycle of a 4 stroke engine.

1.get 1 of your front wheels off the floor (just a little bit, so there is plenty of weight on the other 1).

2. take all your plugs out.

3.Put the handbreak on

4.put it in 5th

5. rotate the road wheel with your finger thumb or whatever over the spark plug gap until you feel it trying to push your finger out.

at the top of that stroke there, is true tdc.

Have a look to see if the rotor arm is pointing at plug No 1.

;)

cheers boys:agree:

will try tomorrow now as its dark outside and i have no lights and i want my dinner:D

im getting whats said now :agree:

so my other question is plug no 1 should always face the rotor arm at tdc?

thanks :agree:

No, with number 1 (flywheel end) at TDC on the fireing stroke, the rotor arm brass contact should be pointing towards the front of the car

At TDC on the compression stroke the rotor arm should face the post on which spark-plug number 1 is connected to. It's not overly important which post this is btw, If your dizzy gear is in the wrong way round it's probably easier to simply make post number 1 a different 1 from the book and carry on the sequence of 1-4-2-3 in a clockwise direction from there.

Hope this helps.
