View Full Version : Flushing coolant system.
Ive heard of a hose pipe method. How exactly is it done??
Engine rebuild is best bet , but hose pipe does work becarful of not damaging rad
heres a good way to do it....
(1) Dump the coolant.
(2) Fill back up with plain water.
(3) Bleed.
(4) Drop a dishwasher tablet into the header tank.
(5) Run upto temp and let it circulate for a (5 - 10 mins)
(6) Allow it to cool.
Repeat until nice and clean.

a rebuild just to flush the coolant! christ, you do like it clean!
i still chuckle that time you asked "what was the best way to clean the gearbox?"
i suggested "with a jetwash, but it it was already clean?"
"no no," you said,"inside the bell housing"
josh, hose pipe method is just take off heater matrix hose, put pipe on matrix but it wont do the full system due to the thermostat. liking ashy's method tho :)
Top tips, cheers :agree:
This is the weekends job for the R5!

:agree: also to add this leaves a nice smell in the header tank you can also use washing machine tablet also:D
The coolant is uber Orange, has obviously been filled with just water then left to stand.
I used the top water pump hose off his car on my raider, and even just that has turned my clean blue coolant a dark blue with an Orange tint:wasntme:
I think you may find it will take a few goes to get it even slightly cleaner. Ashys way is how I have done it before, only difference being I have flushed it with a hose pipe first.
Once you've drained it and got the worst out refill and add a bottle of central heating sludge remover run the car as normal for a week or so then re flush out.
The best way is to take the top rad hose off at the waterpump end, stick the hosepipe in the header tank. Flush the water through until it runs clean. Then take the thermostat out and back flush the rad with the hosepipe in the top hose. Put he header tank cap back on when doing this. Flush both ways a few times, drain coolant and refil with proper antifreeze mix job sorted.
