Hi guys,
Here s a real easy one for you all lol. I had an oem lucas starter motor on my car since I had the car for two years and no problem starting, then about 6 months ago when I started it it would still stay engaged then release itself, you know that horrible embarassing grrrrring noise so I thought it may be on its way out. Fast forward to two weeks ago and sometimes it just clicks and sometimes it turns over then fires up straight away. A week ago it just clicks thats it. So I bought a good used starter motor, fitted it, wired it up, connected battery up and still click!
So what else can I check to make sure I m not missing anything?

I had a problem which was the same. The exciter wire had popped off the starter motor.

Check and clean up all connections and fit a starter heatshield

had this a while ago, check both wires have 12v the small wire with key across(exciter), if these are fine usually its the solenoid like ours was:)

its a tough one, i thought my solenoid was sticking too, it was getting progressively worse after a run to restart hot. id have to wait 10-15mins before the starter solenoid would work. It wasnt the solenoid sticking but the relay and corresponding wiring playing up, i couldnt be bothered repairing tracing old dodgey wiring so just installed a push button start operating a 40amp relay. Starting better than ever everytime.

Hi Tony,
My friend who is an auto electrician suggested the installation
of a push button starter. I think the time has come for one lol.
Thanks
