Hey guys,

I have checked out all the threads through 'search' on front mount intercoolers and cannot really figure out if there is any front mount that.

1) Doesnt require cutting the crossmember.
2) Can fit behind a standard PH2 front bumper.
3) Can allow you to leave the front fog lights in.

The problem I am having is that I have had a split radiator, so am trying to make my mind up to fit a new £100 - £150 aluminium rad or take this time now to fit a brand new diesel radiator (which is 8cm wider and means I cant use my pace double capacity small intercooler) and sort out a nice frontmount?

Please, any advice would be great and any photo's of intercoolers being fitted without much modding would be REALLY helpful.

(Btw, the forge one is more than I can afford to spend on an IC and I think even that you modify?)

2wd cossie coolers will require a shave to the bottom bumper but nothing more drastic.

There are lots of coolers that will fit befind the front grill as well.

go grille mount :)

can get the cooler for about £70 and pipework for no more than £50 :) grille still fits and bumper doesn't need to look like you crashed

Hmm, thats the choice then, a cossie or a grill mount.

I had read that people had been using 2WD cossie coolers, but again didn't know how they fitted in as I haven't been able to find any photo's.

I'd also really like to see a cooler (and know where to buy one) that could fit behind the grill though too as that sounds nice and simple.

I've pretty much decided to get this pipe to do the piping though:

and get some other 90 & 45 degree bends from the MR.SILICONE shop on ebay but thats as far as i've got,

Couple of pics of my old grill mount with c1j, that was just an ebay special cost about 70 for the ic

Finch, that is amazing, looks fantastic.

I'd love to do that on my 5 though I'm not sure it would fit behind the diesel radiator.
Do you know where you got that intercooler from at all?

It's not this one is it?

To be fair there is nothing wrong with an o.e radiator set up.I would get your self a low temp themostat new o.e rad and stick with the dubble cap cooler. Then use the money saved for fuel :):):):):)

Why do people run low temp thermostats, in winter the one which come with my old car caused me nothing but problems as my car would not get to a decent temperature before the fan kicked in. If you car is in good working order a standard temp one will be fine come summer or winter. Thats my opinion anyway:D

With Rich on that. If you cooling system is good , then why run a low temp stat ?

Here Here!

The engine was designed to run at x degrees C, why would you want it to be any other way?

Thanks for the replies guys.

So it's either back to standard radiator and keep the little intercooler I have or grill mount with the diesel radiator. Flip a coin time I think.

this one fits behind the bumper

you only have to remove the lower mountings of the fmic

What bhp are you running and what temps are you seeing.

For road use standards pretty good, even on track it manages pretty well, but will be impeeded by a front mount or grill mount. fyi low temp thermostats dont bring the fan in earlier they allow the water through the rad at a lower temp keeping temps generally lower, low temp rad fan switch will regulate the temp the fan kicks in.(i also agree that for road use standard temp items are fine) on track you'll probably be hot enough for the stat to be open most the time anyway so probably wouldnt make any difference.

i've had 163 BHP with this 1 @ 0.7 bar on the rollers. afterwarts have had it running @ 1,4 bar.

i hadn't have a temp sensor installed

It's a really nice fit, but does it do what it needs to is my question. If I could do 250bhp and keep below 45 degree's celcius, I'd bin my charge cooler now and buy one of those.
