View Full Version : Melted wire
Hello, fitted my volvo engine all fine, took it out for its first drive for a mot and i only made it half way :( Me car just cut out and abit of smoke from the bonnet, took alook and the power wire connection on the battery to the starter had melted off :crap: i tryed holding it on and starting the car but the wire got really hot and burned me fingers. I kind bloke gave me a push outside his place and used his jack, i could not see any wires touching where the shouldnt. After a while of playing about i got it going again, got in drove 5 meters and the same happened again. Touched the wire in the battery and it got hot again.
What could it be?

Deffinetly sound like a dead short somewhere. Any live cable lugs touching the chasis or engine?

Mine did the same shortly after changing the engine loom, turned out it was the conection to the starter motor, postive touching the negitive.
I can't see nothing touching where it shouldn't, how many earths where there on the Volvo engine? I also think its my starter motor.

Nope :p
Right could this happen, when the cars running in my garage i can hear the starter motor rattling around so.... could the starter be stuck out and causing the rattle, also backing up the power some how when i drive it and melted the wire?

Try a different starter motor mate, sounds like its still engaged when engine is running
