was just about to post asking this as ive just installed an aftermarket gauge and have it plumbed into my oil feed.

what should it be at idle cold?
on idle hot?

and when im giving it some?

thanks alot.

and my gauge is in psi.

started it up a min ago. havent drove it yet and it was about 50 psi cold.

Sparkie told me to aim for at least 45 psi on a hot engine at 3krpm

I never quite achieved that though unfortunately :(

New poster! (less than 10 posts)

searched on RTOC and found the following : -

from the manual:
with oil @80C

pressure should be
>1bar (14.5psi) at idle
>3bar (43.5psi) at 4000rpm

80psi is far too much pressure. Surprised you haven't blown the ass off any oil cct seals!

80psi at 3-4k rpm is too much, but would it be ok at 8-9k rpm?

Given a blower only needs 45psi, I'd still say it'd be too much pressure even at your levels of rev'ing, Sir Spark of the E

are you saying a blower must have 45psi at 3k rpm mart? cheers

yes thats exactly what Martino is saying. the turbo needs 45psi else it will go pop.

however, the bottom end needs abit more than that..... ;)

think how many people blow a bottom end these days compared to headgaskets?

the oil feed line to the turbo should have a restrictor in it to limit the pressure to the turbo and/or the pressure drop it causes to the crank/cam/rockers.

a restrictor in the turbo oil feed  sounds scary but i can see your point.

where exactly are these located within the oil feed pipe.?

look at the turbo core entrance when you take the oil feed off....

General rule is about 1bar (15psi) per 1000rpm up to about 4k then your covered anyway.

I get between 4 - 5 driving and 1 - 2 at idle when hot. But the oil senders are made of chocolate and to be fair' are crap! ;)

ive just been out to check my pressures.

when warm on idle its about 30psi.

and at 3k rpm
my gauge goes from 40-60psi and it looks like its sitting just about 45psi will need to get some1 to check this. how much leeway is there when you say the turbo must have 45psi?

probally me being paranoid but hopefully when i get some1 else to look at the gauge while i drive it will be 45psi. lol

Before my rebuild my car was always getting around 40psi when warm @ 3k - it never caused me any trouble. That was on well looked after engine albeit with over 100k on it. I've since rebuilt the oil pump with new internals though just to be sure...
