Hiya Guys

Got talking to a lad I know who's got a Tungy twin engined 5 and asked him if he knew of any R5's for sale on the island, he then asks if I want a black phase 2 for free?!

I thought what's the catch? but I checked it today and all seems ok, it needs the inlet manifold etc refitting, the block had a rotten core plug so they whipped the head off to sort it, bores all ok, motors done 47k from new! no sunroof either!

Only rot I can see is a nice hole under the passenger side rear side window, easy fix? drivers sill has a hole and the below the windscreen has a small scab.

How much grief would I get if I sprayed it white, proper job tho, bare shell?

I'll post pics tmw when it turns up

Needs a few bits n pieces tho!

Given the amount of time you've been looking for the Great White Hope, I'd recommend you get hold of this car & give it a good sort-out to get it to how you want one.

Free is always the best price remember!! ;)

I'd just make sure that the difficult to obtain parts are both present & in order:

Gearknob, Scuttle Panel (you said it's got a scab but that should sort out easy enough), boost hoses, OE Radio?

The only bits that seem different, are cobra front seats, looks like OE hoses, it all needs a good sort out to get running, once running then I'll weld up the panels etc and get the shell stripped, free is nice, I was shocked it was heading to be scrapped due to needed room in a shed!

Sounds like your Destiny to me!! :niceone:

As you want a White one you will need the Red carpet & red fleck seat combo. Thankfully it's going to be a lot easier for you to obtain Red Fleck seats rather than Raider blue ones! You may find someone would be interested in part exchanging a pair of OE seats for the buckets!!

For any parts you need Mike ( phase i 16 v turbo ) is the best bet. You can take a look at his website here - http://www.gt-turbo-spares.co.uk/

the non sunroof is a bonus I thought?

It's deffo a bonus, but it's not rare. None of the gtts were made with sunroofs fitted. They were options that some dealers offered.

As for the car - Go for it, and good luck

You will own the vehicle so changing colour to what you are after will be up to you, making a proper change of it, inside and out is not an easy job though but if the shell is good and parts are there you have a good base to start off on.

Sounds alreet for free! Get some pics up. If it needs bodywork i wouldnt worry too much about changing the colour. Its a big job to do it right though.

Battery tray is the worst, the main bulkhead has rotten through  can you get replacement panels?

My next step is to order some new sills etc, the full sills that are available would they cover the small areas where the door shuts, as these both sides see to have rotted?

The battery tray I know is replaceable but what about the panel it fixes too?

The boot is fine, passenger door needs changing as does the bonnet as it has a few dings in it.

Can you still order plip keys?

Cheers

I bought full sills off ebay and they came with door shuts

dangerous dave

New sills will cover these areas, do a search on eBay for Renault 5 sills and order them. Around £60 a side.

Looks like it needs some serious welding but once you start knocking each area on the head it becomes worth it. Mines had sill repairs, strut, front panel, bumper mounts and needs a lower screen to finish.

it'll be solid..

Good luck getting this car on the road.... Most likely cheaper to save up and buy a nice white one (as you want white anyway)..... Only thing is if you repair this car & get it upto a good standard you know you will have a restored car that should be road legal and rust free for a long time....

Yer I did realise it needs a fair bit of welding but like u say it will be solid when i'm done, how can I fix under the battery tray? is there a panel to replace it?

Gonna get cracking on it in a week or 2, gonna strip it to a rolling shell so I can cut all the rot out, fingers crossed there isn't much left!

Has anyone got an old 5 if not they could cut a few areas out that I need?

I know waht u say about costing more but being on an island I'll just grin n bare it for now lol, It will be white when I'm finished tho :)

Cheers

Hi you are a lucky bloke gettin that for free. mine Was the same so i just cut some metal out so there was no rot left then made plates and welded them in then drilled plate to fit new battrey tray. What makes it easyier is to make a cardboard cut out of the holes you want to cover and then use them to cut around on your new metal

Get another 5 back on the road

Yep it was C449 EBH but now wears a local reg which is "176" I need to take some recent pics these were taken 5 years ago when I first bought it. It's had 5 owners with 43k on the clock :)

Tad harsh but that is a big job, a friend of mine works on classic cars and some are remanufactured to the point where the only original part is the chassis plate so anything is possible but massive respect if you sort that.

See if you can buy a few part out of a scrap campus shell, battery tray etc. you could cut all the shapes you need out of that if it was in good shape and more likely cheaper than buying new or second hand.

Perhaps a solid donor campus is needed.

New poster! (less than 10 posts)

Go for it mate

Things like this are only hard if you cant weld or have never done it. Buy a good welder, take your time and after all it is metal - if you screw it up, cut it out and do it again. Remember a grinder is your friend, to many cars end up on the scrap heap because people are scared to take things like this on. So just do it..

Good luck
;)
