strange revvin

hi ppl hopefully someone can help, I have just put a engine in my 5, kicks in first time no worries and when it starts to warm up and the choke is off, the car ticks over just below 1000 then now and then it revs on its own to about 1500. strange , any ideas

Im thinking a possible air leak buddy? sounds like it may be if the revs just go higher for no reason , do they stay @ that reading? or do they drop then rise again etc?.

did it come with a carb or did you use your old one?, it may be that you have an air leak or a dodgy mixture screw on the carb etc, i know from experience that this is enough to cause it, check your carb pipe work , your breathers especially, how sure are you of the engine/history etc?.
