My car is 25 years old and isn't tax exempt. Does anybody know why?

Doesn't apply to cars registered after 1970 or so :)

Cars built before 1 January 1973 are eligible for ‘historic vehicle class’ and therefore exempt for paying road tax in the UK.... To be exact.
They stopped moving the tax exemption date forward about ten years ago and made it static.
I knew a lad with a 1976 Mini who was patiently waiting for his tax exemption to come around. It was his pride and joy (read: total sh*tbox). Then the govt shat on him directly and said only cars that are pre-1974 would be exempt.

I know a guy with an alpha registered 1st Jan 1973 :cry:and he's gutted he has to pay tax on it. If only it was one day older he wouldn't.

that sounds unfair. i had a 1972 beetle years ago which was tax free. they should change it back to a minimum age.

Should be a rolling 25 imo, not a static date in 1973. My 9 would qualify, and the 21 isnt far off either.
