Will start at the beginning car when off to have sills and jacking points done and was sat in a garage for 2 months, collected the car and on the way home the temp when past the normal place the fan cuts in. continued to drive home as it was all duel carriageways and the temp then dropped.

Checked over the car a few days later checked the oil cap and found this

I have found the cause of the problem it was the relay for the cooling fan

apparently this is the problem with brand new wiring looms them don't come with the plastic boot that seals against the relay, relay swapped and got the fan to kick in

so drained the oil out as i thought it might has been condensation from being sat

Still the same after this mayo in the oil cap dipstick dripping more like water than oil, also noticed the coolant level dropped so topped up and bleed with the 2 person method

Noticed top rad hose was getting solid when the car got up to temp
tested the coolant system for leaks using a pump and modified expansion cap top this was all ok no leeks and most of the expansion tank fluid when into the rest of the system untill i could not pump any more

flushed the oil again and changed the filter bleed the system and run upto temp everything seemed fine also run the car with the cap off the expansion tank and it did not boil over and the fan inside the car was nice and hot

was advised to do a block test so managed to get hold of one to test this come back all ok and the pump on the top compressed and cound not be squeezed any more

checked the car this week and the expansion tank was empty checked the floor and there was only a little bit of oil on the floor when i dropped some when doing the filter. expansion tank took about a little and half of water to fill back to the max also noticed that the dipstick oil level had risen and i didnt over fill it as i still had 1 and half litres left out 5 litres when i done the filter

done a compression test and 3 of the results was 150 or just over and the 4 one was about 140

also checked the oil catch tank and this is what i found

sorry to ramble on just thought id give people as much info as possible
Im after some advise really

With that much mayo in the oil I would have to say the HG has failed.. Water in the catch tank will just be condensation and is quite normal..

The only other test you can do is the sniff test in the coolant, but the evidence is pretty convulsive already.

The car has been sat since about Jan and the coolant does not smell of anything

It's overheated though hasn't it?

Also when I say a sniff test, I ment you can go to a local MOT place and put the CO2 meter in the coolant, this is a sniff test (I should of made it clearer) :)

That's what Im not too sure if it has because it was away having the sills done and the relay must have gone then I know the guy that done the car started it and let it run but I dunno for how long and then when I was driving home it never got so bad that the light come on

As for the sniff test hehe now you know how much I know about cars
