Hi guys.
I am in the process off dropping my 5 lump in a 1997 clio. I was just wondering if the car will fail for no catilyic converter. Or will it pass because the 5 gt turbo lump is pre 1991?

when i had my 5 engine in a 1994 clio they tested the car on the age of the engine

Cheers. Hopefully the same still applies. I do not want no catalyic converter slowing me down:)

Still the same rules, they test the engine on the vehicle it come out of. You wont need a cat.

On my 5 they tested the year of the vehicle not the car year the engine came from. So you can get a brand newish car and then shove a cosworth lump in and wont need to get through emissions???

That used to be the law but I have a feeling that the newer cars with their tight regulations won't allow that. I think in the example of the older clio it'll be fine, they'll test the engine as the lads say, but I can't imagine that's the case when dealing with a car only a few years old.

You need to get an engineer's report send it to DVLA and they change the Database to reflect the engine in the class and the tax you pay. Takes about 3 weeks to get it all done.

Thanks
Mike
