Hi all.. can anyone help?

OK so I'm driving along the motorway and everything's running fine then the temp warning light comes on. It's really bugging me because I don't know why? The needle is hanging around the normal just above the first blob position and the car is running perfectly.

Something tells me it's a sensor problem because the light flickers for a bit.. then is stays on constantly, then it dims down to virtually nothing.. but the ******* thing won't go out full stop. I've just driven 75 miles with it flickering intermittently. I've checked under the hood and everything looks ok. There is no water leakage, the alternator belt isn't slipping, the water is topped up in the expansion tank and all the pipes & radiator feel the right temp. The heater is working in the car.... basically the only thing I can think of is either a funked sensor or a circulation prob?

Anyone think of anything else?

Thanks in advance for your help

On the water temp sensor there is two wires one gives the needle a reading and the other is for the warning light. you'll probably find the warring wire has a break in it and every once in a while it's earthing out making the light come on.

Cheers fella's. Just checking all the leads now.. is the sensor that does the temp gauge and light on the right side of the radiator as you look at it from the back to the front of the car?

I could be wrong but I don't think it is as when I disconnect the two wires the temp gauge/warning light still work.

If you should be looking for another two leads please let me know and excuse me for being a twonk!

Cheers

Thanks again guys. Disconnected the wires from the sensor on top of the water pump and found some corrosion. I've picked off as much as I can and reconnected and now it all seems to be working fine. I'll give it a proper going over on the weekend.

Once again thanks for the quick response.... I LOVE RTOC x
