Just went for a blast in the rain at lunch and after about 15mins noticed temp gauge started to rise to under second bar on gauge. (I have lower temp thermostat so never over 1st bar). Got back to work and checked it was all connected still. left it for 5mins fan didnt cut in. Ill double check everything (that i know of) when i finish work.

Anything I can check or look out for? Might of been because i got stuck in traffic but even then doesnt normally get hot ;'(

Cheers lads

What temp fan switch have you got in the rad?

Might be worth checking fan relay too, they are very pron for packing up

cheers mate. Ill check fan relay.

Think its this temp switch http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/RENAULT-5-GT-TURBO-LOW-TEMPERATURE-RADIATOR-FAN-SWITCH-/390063664764?pt=UK_CarsParts_Vehicles_CarParts_SM&hash=item5ad19b2e7c#ht_500wt_1081 but looks all connected up.

Ill nip down and have another look in a minute!

hmm left it running for 15mins went to half way between bar 1 and 2. Turned off waited fan didn't kick in at any point. just got my haynes out of the car.

How would I check the relay (bearing in mind I have no idea what/where this is?)

Cheers

Relay might be dead, pull the plug off the sensor on the rad and bridge the wires to see if it works.

unless I've Miss read it sounds normal to me, my fan didn't kick in till 3/4 or so up the gauge, changed to low temp stat and switch which made the fan come in earlier but even still it wasn't until gauge had passed half way.

think it's a case of gauge watching making you think it's developed a problem when in reality you're relying on 20 year old wiring and gauges to be 100% accurate 100% of the time.

like said bridge the switch to check fan is working, clean up terminals and connections and just make sure the gauge doesn't go into the red :)

Ye hear what you your saying! and I dont trust any gauges on my car. Oil pressure gauge randomly started working again after not moving for 2 months lol.

There is definitely something up sure everyone can tell when their car isn't as normal. Just don't want it to melt!

Bridges wires and fan didn't start? Wonder if the fan as actually had it as I think a bearing had gone in it.
