when i have done these in the past i have counted and measured the track rod thread and removed and slid the new boot on,the new ones i have include a plastic cone to place over the track rod, when its greased up i can see the larger end going over fine but how the hell am i supposed to wiggle the remaining part of the boot?

the whole boot goes over the ball joint via the cone.Same as doing a c.v boot.
If the rod end will come off with no real problem then do it the old way:)

cheers

all done, used the plastic cones on top the track rods ends,a little lubrication with some grease and they slid on ok,the small end had to be stretched over with some effort but imo its by far a better and less hassle way now i have done it like this.
