one of the pulleys not in line or the bushes on the alternator are knackered would be the first places to look

Read my thread mate. Changed my bottom pulley and fitted an anti jump belt guide and all was well.

Worth a read, also bear in mind once it's twisted once it will probably keep on doing it untill you replace the belt and sort the issue.

Its not the alternator itself mate, its the rubber bushes in the alternator bracket that bolts to the front of the block that can become out of shape :)

Another thing to check is, when you replaced the alternator, did you put the little spacing bush back on under the bracket that bolts to the block?

If it's twisting things to check.

1. Correct tension
2. Pulley alignment with a straight edge
3. No movement in alternator. Grab it and give it a good wobble
4. Check the bottom of the alt, see if the bushes are ok and there are correct spacing washers on it
5. That your bottom pulley is on the right way round
6. No damage to the bottom pulley and it is located properly.
7. No damage to the bottom pulley shaft once pulley is removed
8. The pulley is tightened up properly
9. Bolt which holds the bottom pulley on is not bent or damaged
10. Just check the belt for movement when it's ticking over. Might indicate where the problem lies.

I swapped my pulley and it's been sound, get a campus pulley on there. FTW!

Ha I was just coming on to say the same thing well nearly the same giving it some welly and the alternator light comes on.. Is that just a spinning belt or is my alternator in need of replacing? I know the boost has gone up. Do I buy an r5 one or is there an uprated one?
