Shopers
I'll more than likely book Norfolkline as i'm a janky poor caaaant  and hopefully hook up en route, failing that i'll see everyone at Nurburgring on the Saturday. I'll probably book the ferry this weekend.
I'm beginning to think the ferry might've been a safer option...

so whats the final on the majority of travelers? ferry/et what time?
New poster! (less than 10 posts)
I've booked the 6am ferry with Norfolkline on the Saturday, it takes 1h 45m so i should be on french soil approx 9am
As far as i'm aware it's only Mart, Alex and Giles who have booked their crossing. Correct me if i'm wrong. I should be at Nurburgring for around 3pm Saturday :)

I must admit i am tempted to go ferry option myself... although i will have to wait til Tuesday this week to book...
Admit was thinking about the ferry too, it's more sociable and we'll have plenty of time in Germany anyways. There's also all the problems with half the tunnel being closed at the moment, I know it'll be sorted by then but we need to book ASAP really.
New poster! (less than 10 posts)
Definitely best to book asap so we're on the same ferry and you get the same price as what i paid too
Adey aka Ewok
14-09-2008, 21:23
u got a booking link riccy?
I'll ring Tommy tonight and get us booked up. Won't be coming back late on the Tuesday and we've gotta drive back to West London and then I have to train it back to Swindon from there

Eurotunnel is now open both ways.
The prices will ramp up if yous keep leaving it.
And not forgetting the fact that October is historically a windy month, so if you haven't got good sea legs... http://www.residentadvisor.net/images/forum/smiley_sick.gif

I have been told its "walking distance in the same village" now bearing in mind the village is tiny i dont see it being a problem... but even so i dont plan on drinking whilst i am over there so i will happily drive whilst over there if needed...
As for sunday i think most people plan on getting up, breakfast, go to the ring.. have a day over there... if i take the diesel i may get hold of a decent camera and go for a nice walk and get some pics of you guys on track...
Still can't understand why you guys don't look for digs in Nurburg itself? There are more places other than the Tiergarten...

Can drive to meet them then help them out with costs etc. I will sleep on someones floor if i have to.
If anyone has a spare seat then give me a shout on 07875470252 as i don't get on here much any more.

To stay at the Tiergarten? I think it works out around £40 per person per night (based on 2 sharing a room). I know it's not as cheap as staying at Gunther's (*), but it saves a bit of fuel by not having to drive to his place & back every day, plus it's like a minute's drive to the 'Ring entrance, steak on a stone dinners at the Pistenklause, a good chance of bumping into Sabine, badical rooms, plenty of parking spaces, blah blah blah.
* If I remember rightly from last time I stayed at Gunther's, based on 2 people sharing a room & staying 3 nights, I think it works out around £30 more to stay at the Tiergarten for the same duration. By the time you've taken off fuel used getting to/from Gunther's, the difference is hardly worth worrying about.
As I mentioned before, there's plenty of other hotels in Nurburg, which then means we could all hook up of the night-time for some German beerage without anyone having to worry about driving.
Any idea if they have rooms still @ the Tiergarten? I may give them a ring in a minute

thats a bit harsh if shopboys sorted you a room at gunters?
I didn't mean to book, I mean for the other guys who aren't set yet
If you're v lucky, there might be a room or 2 left, but from what I can make out, the GTR/Skyline owners club have pretty much taken all the rooms for that weekend.
Defo worth a phone call though. If they haven't any rooms, I'm pretty sure they'd pass on contact details of a nearby hotel which might have rooms.

thats a bit harsh if shopboys sorted you a room at gunters?
Maybe, but then no money has been put down, and it's not like everyone is tied & bound by contract to stay at Gunther's. Even Shopboy himself isn't staying there!
In fairness, I did mention all this to Shoppers when I first said about the October weekend/Alex & myself going out there, but for whatever reason Gunther's place still got the nod.
Just a shame that the group is now gonna be split up for the night-time fun & games :(

Cheers mart... you janky c*nt.... all my hard work...
TBH i am happy to do some last min booking for the RTOC people if there happy not staying at Gunters...
I will happily email/call a list of hotels tomorrow but with out being funny we will need to let Gunters kow asap as i have no doubt they maybe be a bit p*ssed off but as long as we give 4 weeks notice its pretty fair...
Chris, I think everyone already booked to stay @ Gunthers and the local guesthouse is happy where they are anyway

lol :D As per the phone call, you know what I meant :)

Right tbh theres not many hotels for us but... there is one...
Price is €225 euro for the 3 nights... for a double room, thats and extra €40 over Gunters....
Its trackside which is pretty good.... opinions please... http://i255.photobucket.com/albums/hh149/sexychrissmith/Hotel_Bilder_001.jpg
Are we changing now? Lol happy to go with whatever anyone else wants. I'm not driving so I don't really get a say
Dont mind, happy with anything. Hotel with view
Penfold aka The Dealer
17-09-2008, 15:36
TBH i wasnt to keen on changin hotels, but seeing as now i have a list of 10 hotels next to ring (within 2 miles max) and there all pretty good prices, speak fluent english... accept credit cards etc....
Perhaps its time to say good bye to gunters and have a hotel Track based so to speak....
I'm happy to stay at Gunthers hotel, reasonable price, good food and beer, and the drive over to the Ring isn't that bad... there's also 100RON Shell just round the corner too.
Looks like i'll be there on my own
Yeah plus side, Gunters food is rather nice, and the last hotel we stayed at was not the best really. But then again you never know until you try.
Not stayed at Gunthers myself but everyone I've spoken to seemed to love it. More than happy to stay there :)
It may be something to think about if we can ALL get in the same hotel but you don't need to create work for yourself Chris. Chillax and just await the 18th October, woohoo :D
Oh and to those who haven't yet booked travel, you may want to soon as the prices are beginning to rise.
Shoppers, is that the Hotel Nordschleife at the Breidscheid corner? (where the 2nd entrance barriers to the track are). If so, I reckon we should all stay there the next time, as it's supposed to be a v nice hotel with bloody good food/portions.

Not that it makes a great deal of difference, but why are peeps booking the 2:20pm ET for the return leg? Is the 2:50pm train now fully booked?
Penfold aka The Dealer
18-09-2008, 15:54
I booked the 2:50 train yesterday.... but as said as long as your within 2 hours each side of your departure time ET will do the best to get you on a earlier train... considering even atm trains are only running 70% during off peak hours we should be fine.
What happens when you try too hard
Dave who used to own a red gt turbo from chelmsford went over to the ring last weekend. His car came back in one piece, one of the cars didn't

Supposed to have been £1850 worth of damage to the track and im guessing that includes recovery of vehicle from track and closure of it.
Plus would need to get his car back to England.
Makes you think about is it worth going fast round that track.
Penfold aka The Dealer
25-09-2008, 19:16
Ouch, not a cheap repair there...
I hope the lad was ok, Seriously guys take it easy on track... so far RTOC has had luck on there side... but will it always be there?
what caused that crash? crap driving/under estimating the track or.....?
From what Dave was saying, the bloke managed a 8.5min lap on the track, the car is running about 280bhp so im guessing he was seriously pushing it and went beyond his skill of driving.
guys advice here please, i'd love to do something like this once the 5 is up and 100%
what happens with regards to brake downs etc and terminal faults, do you just take the risk that everything will be fine, i know you can get international brake down etc, but say you trash the engine, its not like you can just pop back to the garage once the works been done, what plan do people have in place for this?
Penfold aka The Dealer
25-09-2008, 19:54
Basically we have had around 20 different 5 goes... no major problems... all fixed out there... but if worse comes to it BreakDown is needed... but even then they often dont pick up from the ring or take u back to the UK.... they will often only tow to the cost of the car.... but argue your car is Agreed value £3k etc etc...
ah right so its always handy really having a supposrt vehicle as such that can tow maybe a trailor if there's tonnes of people going, bit ott but i'd be gutted trying to lug all my gear home only to leave the car behind, for naff all insurance pay out
New poster! (less than 10 posts)
IF you have a breakdown on the Ring, I have ADAC cover which will save you the 185 EUR it costs to have it towed off the circuit..secure indoor/ outdoor storage is available close to the Ring if you have problems..
My advice would be to read the following link, then read it again :)
http://www.nurburgring.org.uk/beginners.html
But anyone that is timing their laps round the Ring is asking for trouble....reckon that guy with the Focus will still want the Ring sticker on the car after that :D

02-10-2008, 08:53
Right then people... a few members said that they were interested in going to the ring at ND.... Well you now have 48 hours from now to confirm as i must confirm 100% numbers with our hotel & B&B regarding rooms etc.
Anybody know if Jesus and J are still going... not heard from them in a while regarding the ring?
Will text J now for ya Chris :agree: If Tricky comes it's going to be an extremely last minute decision so he'll be sorting himself out
Will text J now for ya Chris :agree: If Tricky comes it's going to be an extremely last minute decision so he'll be sorting himself out
Justin's just got back to me, he and Matty are still attending in Jays 5 :agree:
I've also been in contact with EuroTunnel to confirm about the crossing times, any delays, etc.
As soon as they reply back, I'll post it on here.
Just to check, are the majority booked onto the 6:20am train on the Saturday morning?
Meeting up time has changed, for those that do want to meet before-hand - It's now 5:15am onwards at the Tesco near Shopboy's (M20, junction 10), leaving there at 5:30am sharp.
Yep, 6:20 saturday morning, another great early start. And going to be nice and cold as well.
Seems they are having troubles with ET still, saw it on the news again last night, any clue what that was all about?
Dale, according to the below link they had to remove part of the damaged train
http://www.eurotunnel.com/ukcP3Main/ukcCorporate/ukcTheGroup/ukcFocusOn/ukpFocusOn.htm
It's only the last third of one of the tunnels that's still closed. ET reckon they're nigh-on upto full speed again though, but I just wanted some clarification from them just incase there are any delays, or that we might have to be there earlier to guarantee a spot on that 6:20am train, etc.
If you think it's gonna be cold that time of morning, it should set you up nicely for Germany then, as the long range forecast (pinch of salt time) reckons it's gonna be a 'chilly' but dry weekend.

ET are running, but more like 1 train an hour... seeing as our 6:20 train is the 2nd train out that morning we "should" be ok.

Just received a further booking confirmation from Eurotunnel and I chose the 6:20am departure time and 14:20 return time only it says the below:
Check-in closes 05:25 Departure time 05:55 Arrival time 07:30
Does anyone else have the same?
EuroTunnel update...
Just spoken to them, and the 6:20am train has been cancelled. Everyone booked onto that train should get an email in the next couple of days, if you haven't already done so, giving you the option of taking the 5:55am or 7:30am train.
If you've already been designated a time slot though, you can phone ET & ask to be put on the alternative time slot train, but this is on a first come first served basis.
Not sure what everyone else is gonna do, but personally, I'm gonna request the 5:55am train.

Ive just checked my emails, they sent through another copy of the confirmation of booking today and it still says departure at 6:20
Dale, I spoke to ET this morning - The 6:20am train is cancelled. Period. You have the choice of taking either the 5:55am or 7:30am trains.
More than likely, if you were to check with them yourself, you'll find you've probably already been allocated a space on the 5:55am train.
If that's too early, you can change it to the half 7 train, but you have to let them know asap.
Think we'll all be sleeping well that first night out there...
Im going to ring them up today, was too late last night. Was just suprised that I got another Email but with same times on them. Find out soon anyway, but will be booking the early train anyway
Just rung them up, definately the 6:20am on the 18th is still running. They have two trains running close to each other every 90mins. the 5:55 and 6:20 being them. So unsure on what you have read, unless they have moved yours because other people who are booked on a later train have taken up your slot and they have moved you early. Well as everyone is moving in the same convoy, im still going to be waking up early to get the early train as thats still possible to get with my ticket.
Ok, this is far too confusing, as the French cock I spoke to yesterday assured me the 6:20am train had been cancelled altogether.
Time for another phone call...
Oh, I can feel some fecking smackdown coming on
Apologies for any confusion, but it appears I was fed a bowl-full of ET bullsh1t yesterday...
Just spoke to them again, and surprise surprise there is a 6:20am train still running :sad2: The reason why they spouted pony to me yesterday is apparently because the 6:20am train is fully booked, and hence, at random, some people have been pushed onto the 5:55am train.
Now why they didn't explain that yesterday, gawd knows
So, to confirm, or at least I think this is now the case; for anyone who's had an email saying you're now on the 5:55am train, that's now the bobby. The chances of getting it changed to the 6:20am train is null & void. If you haven't had any updated email from them, you're still on the 6:20am train.
Fecking typical that I've got the furthest distance to travel overall, and been placed on the earlier train. FFS.

I am seriously p*ssed off about all this messing about... i like the way ET take the time to call us personnaly... not everybody has email address's....
We give them a f*cking phone number, they should f*cking use it. ET are monkeys i swear... they employed 100 extra people since the fire to be in there customer service call centre in ashford... believe me when i ring i would feel sorry for the poor tw*t who answer's it... and if i get any sh*t excuse from them i am going straight to the call centre as its next door to Ashford Test centre and kick some a*se.
Ferry.... FTW :coffee: :D
Ricky, p1ss off ;) :D
Unless ET change the crossings again  how does circa 5am (for leaving time) at the now infamous Tesco near Shopboy's sound? I swear if it gets any earlier, I might as well sleep in their sodding car-park that night  :D
For the guys & girls on the 6:20am crossing, we'll wait for you at the same services we all met at last time - The one that's about 60 mile or so once we're off the train.
So that'll be Sunderland to Abergavenny Thursday night, Abergavenny to the ghetto Friday night, then a 4am start Saturday morning. Splen-fecking-did :sad2:

We need a "smiley" of sh*t hitting the fan.
Just got the below back from them, had to email the other day as couldn't get away to make a call:
"Thank you for your email
You should have received notification of this amendment by email Ms Smith,if you haven't please accept our apologies. Due to the incident on the 11 September, your pre-booked departure and return time have had to be amended to an alternative time in line with our Revised Shuttle Service Timetable. Customers are advised to respect their new departure times to avoid over-extended waiting times. "
That's just shoddy! Noticed they've actually moved my departure on 21st back to 14:37 too, not really bothered about that though

Ok guys,
1 huge major f*ck up going on here...
The "cheap" ticket deal we did.. ie : booking 2 journeys is against ET Terms and conditions.
We "could" and would most likely get stung... basically ET have the right to charge up singles fare per journey... something like £150 max!!
Now i have cancelled Eurotunnel booking, i managefd to get a refund, i just said i cant afford for ET to change my bookings anymore hence going elsewhere, stated i didnt trust ET with my booking/money anymore and would not be dealing with them anymore.
Please everybody cancel ET booking as we dont want anybody getting stung big time!!!
Norkfolkline is £60 P&O is £75....
I will be confirming my booking tonight after work... most likely going via P&O as i have been on there before and had no problems...
PLEASE PASS this message on to everybody going (Mart, Krisy M, J & Jesus, Tom6ft6, Adey, Dale Jarvis, Minty 83 etc)
Sorry i dont have time atm to txt everybody...
Drama drama, they are muppets to be fair! Shoppers, can you do us a favour and repost the NFL or P&O times/website etc so it's to hand for everyone when they see this in the latest post?
This is just bollox :( looks like its going to be fun cancelling and rebooking. P&O are charging fuel surcharge now :(
if you do go with P&O then ask if Tricky can have a go at the helm.....
I'm sure he can the back end out with 40,000BHP on tap
My ET crossings are now cancelled :sad2:
Booked with NorfolkLine (Ricky was right - Ferry FTW). Travelling out 6am on Saturday 18th, coming back 2pm Tuesday 21st. Cost comes in just shy of £60 return.
Forget the meeting times/place; I'll catch you guys either at check-in or on the boat.
What a complete & utter fecking carry on...
Chaps, sorry to hear about the ET goings on :(
I'm booked on the Norfolkline, Saturday 18th at 6am, i'm coming back a day earlier on the Monday which gave me the total price inc fuel surcharge and credit card charge of £65. ET wanted £120 for my Saturday-Monday return so it made sense for me to book the Norfolkline option.
The ferry isn't that bad, a nice full english and a cup o splodge first thing in the morning before the trek over Europe :)

Shoppers, i need that Norforkline confirmation please :)

is there anyone planing to stay using et?
I seriously wouldnt recommend it as you could be charged £250ish...
Here is the piece of ET terms & conditions...
1. TICKET VALIDITY
1.1 Your booking is only valid for the booked departure date and time and the vehicle type stated.
Failure to complete both the outward and return journeys in respect of a return booking will invalidate your booking and in the event that you complete only one journey in respect of a return booking, you will be liable to pay the difference between the price that you paid for your return booking and the single fare applicable at the time that your journey was made. Eurotunnel reserves the right to obtain from you payment in full for all sums so arising.
All travel must be completed within 1 calendar year of the date of booking.

Penfold aka The Dealer
13-10-2008, 21:16
cant you record on track?
Nope, anybody caught using camera be the still or movie cams can be banned from track.
Spectators are welcome to take pics/vids from the track side.
No. If you get caught, they'll ban you for the day. If you ignore, continue to record & get caught the next day/next time, you'll get a permanent ban. End of.
Course, that doesn't stop people hiding camcorders/bullet cams though, but that's the risk those people are willing to take.
Also bear in mind there are 'spotters' galore around the track, as well as marshalls, and joe public, who will contact the race/ticket office if they feel you're ruining everyone elses day on track.
Bear that in mind as well if you're unfortunate to start dropping any fluids on track. If that happens, pull over straight away, and do NOT attempt to drive back to the car-park.

No camera's full stop!! The nurburgring have banned them, also worth reading http://www.nurburgring.org.uk/
IE: Warning section, Rules and penalties
You need to be very carefull driving the ring....
Adey, you need to read & digest what I'm posting. If you get caught filming, you will get banned for the rest of the day.
If you get away with it, fair play, you'll have some good footage. If you get caught though, your day/possibly weekend is over as far as driving on track again goes.
Live by the sword, die by the sword.

i do read what you say bud, but the amount of videos out there seem to sugest it might not be s strict as made out, hell ive got a 10 min of video footage from my own car with the passanger holding the camera. could be for legal reasons same as the noise testing?? im still yet to see any of either things enforced
Upto you, but I'm telling you now, as exactly as the guy in the ticket office will tell you on the day, that if you get caught filming, you'll be banned.

ok dad thanks for watching out for us
Remember tho dawn no camera footage on track... :)
I was on about taking photos of the actual journey and in the evening anyway :agree:
Adey, I think the number of cars that have attended the ring over the decades somewhat easily outweigh the number of videos posted on YouTube.
Maybe those people have been lucky, or have their cameras hidden away.
I witnessed for myself, as did a few others, an Impreza getting noise-tested in the car-park, and subsequently banned from going on track when the tester's dB meter showed 104dB.
Giles, my mate with the 32 Skyline, knows a couple of people who have been kicked off track for recording vid's.
I'm not posting all this for fun or to be a killjoy. I'm just trying to make you aware of what may happen, as at the end of the day, no-one wants their weekend ruined, do they.

The E111 doesn't exist anymore Dale, that's what this European medical card is for. It's still however not a replacement for travel insurance so I'm going to get a single-tripper when I go to the post office to exchange my squids into Europops :)

A Jafflong ruby would defo get the weekend off to an even better start :)
Dawn, I know you aimed this at Shopboy, but I'm guessing the majority, if not all, will want to get some laps in on Saturday afternoon, then Sunday is the main action day as the track is open all day, hence I'm guessing people will be on track/taking a walk around the track, getting some pic's etc, that day.
Maybe not, but that's pretty much my plan of attack. As for Monday, I'll take it as it comes...
