After the mot/doe test on my van the tester was being a right tit and explained that my front brake hose had to be replaced due to (small fray cracks:rolleyes:)so it had failed the test:(
so i had a look at it and he shown me and i thought ok then ill just replace it and take it back to him to pass it after all it should be no troubble...............if all goes well:scared:

about 2 yrs ago i had my gt turbo tested and in the end i had to replace both rear brake lines which was ok BUT due to some mistakes and just school boy errors it cost me 3 cappilers and and hole load of tripe due to just trying to do the simple things like relosen the unions and bleed nipples(snapping off or rounding off edges)
today it was all good and managed to replace the brake line with no problems.this might of been down to just pot luck,i dont know but personally i think it was down to using my past experince and good bit of tools:)

to some ppl this will just be a simple job to do but to others it might not be that simple and then you can end up in some bother:( id narrow this down to just wrong type spanners being used and even in which way unions comes off.:crap::ashamed:
sound stupid i know but hey we all learn one way or another :sad2:

1st this is the tools that you will need to replace the front brake flexi hose.
the spay was pretty good and managed to get the nuts off pretty free even though they were very tight(all came off 1st time):)i would spray 2 days before and give it plenty so the nuts can soak in plenty.(8MM,11MM,14MM)

2.the 1st thing i tryed to undo was the bleed nippe.using a 8mm spanner push the spanner downwards going in a clockwise postion.it will be very tight but dont give it too much of a push just TAKE IT EASY.if this frees it self then its all good if not then its a new cappiler

3.next it to remove the the bolt which is connected to the brake cappiler.using a 14mm spanner undo the bolt pushing away from you in a anti-clockwise postion.this come off pretty easy,if its clogged up with dirt just scrape it away to show the edges of the bolt that need to come off.here replacing the hose the spanner is then a 15mm

4.after that its time to undo the union which holds in place the flexi hose.a quick brush over with a wire brush should make the union nice and clean to the spanner can remove the union.using a 11mm brake pipe spanner pull the spanner towards you in a clockwise postion.halfords do sell them, its worth the money!!

To remove the flexi hose it might be pretty stuck in the hole that is sits in a quick tap should relise it.
one all the nuts/unions are lose you can then remove the brake capiler and then then brake hose.
i would screw the hose in 1st into the cappiler and then re tighten to the union bolt.
keep a eye on the brake fluid also.
the haynes manual dose explain on how to bleed the system so its pretty straight forward from that.
something that seems so simple can some times cause so much troubble and money as i had found out myself :crap:
just incase any new members might not be so sure in how to remove the flexi hose.
remember this can be job costing from one flexi hose to a new cappiler or even at worse new brake lines:disagree::sad2:if all goes wrong.
