Water temp??

Ok so i put my dash in the weekend and iv got some stack mechanical gauges, iv put the water temp sensor in the top rad hose im getting just shy of 70 degrees C showing?? Is this right i would of thought it should be slightly higher? Fans cutting in quite alot aswell i have a low temp fan switch... just dunno if the gauge is working properly as the sensor aint grounded to something you have to run a sepreate earth from the gauge to somewher near the sensor but iv run one from the sensor to chassis and thats the reading im getting? :confused:

Had one fitted but it was sticking so took it out gotta get another one will this make a diff?

Stat will definitely make a difference as that controls the temp
