Standard turbo boost adjustment

Hi,

Can anyone advise what is the standard boost setting on the Oem turbo and how to set it up please? (what position should it be in on the adjuster)

Difficult to do other than run it and see where your needle goes to.

Both.



Your mechanical boost thingy is measuring atmospheric + boost

1.7 bar is 24.65646 psi ( you are most definatly not running that )

1 bar ( normal atmospheric pressure at sea level ) is 14.5038 psi

.7 bar is around 10psi ( or standard boost )

Add the two and you get what your mech boost thingy is working out.

Effectivly , its the same in real terms.

On both gauges when the engine is turned on they read vacuum the standard One goes as far as it can and the new one goes to -.5bar so would atmospheric pressure now be 0 then when it goes to 1.7bar that's the boost its getting not .7:scratch:

The original gauge is only supposed to read positive pressure thats your problem:) anything over 1bar and it usually goes off the scale

At the moment it is reading vacuum as well as there's nowhere to read just positive pressure. :rolleyes: sorry for the hijack:D

How do I manually adjust it then - all is standard. The engine so I take it the adjuster on the turbo needs to point somewhere to set it to standard boost.

The actuator rod length adjusts the boost, shorter the rod more boost.

Not sure yet as not ha it out since heas gasket was done. Weeks back next week so can try and see then. May need winding back in.

Just wind it in then give it a run to see what the guage is reading. Keep adjusting until the guage is reading at the correct line. Trial and error is the only way to set it up.

If you wind it all the way in you will be running a lot of boost.

Best to see where it boosts to on the gauge and check against the pic in the first post.

If it's boosting too much then lengthen the rod a bit and retest. Do say half a turn each time and repeat the test. If it's not boosting enough (unlikely), then wind the rod in gradually, testing each half a turn, etc.

With an original actuator half a hole of preload is a good starting point, i.e you need to pull the actuator about 3mm to get it back on the wastegate. Dont shorten the rod unless you want to run more boost.

One of the most useful tools in the box .You can set/adjust actuator without losing your fingerprints ;) ,calibrate gauges ,pump up water systems for leak test list goes on ,anything with pressure + it also has vac so can test fuel regs ,servos ,vac advance and bleed hydraulics :coffee:
I've just bought the one above to replace my old one , the new version will do 60psi + and a bar of vac .

or a bicycle inertube valve (car type) cut off wedged in some 6mm silicone hose, and use a mtb shock pump with gauge to adj actuator. Thats what i use as i had it there:D when the wastegate opens is what boost you will be running

:agree:used almost everyday at work, one of the simplest best tools :D(godsend for bleeding diesel fuel lines after service)

I third that, makes it a lot easier than attempting to stretch the actuator by hand
