Looking at getting some new suspension for 5. Looking at coilovers and uprated rear dampers what's everyone's opinions on brands which is best?

I got AVO coilovers all round on mine... height and dampner adjustment, although you dont really mess around with it, set it up and keep as it is!

any tips for setting it up? :)

Get it on a fairly decent/flat/level piece of ground (I used to set my old sprint car up in the old days at a local supermarket carpark.... Hehe).

Set up the ride heights first, a tape measure will be close enough to start with.

Do the camber angles next, a decent plumb line is ok.

Set the toe angle, a 'touch' of toe out works pretty well.

To get an idea of damping, pop a cable tie round the shaft of the shock and go for a drive, note down how high the cable tie has travelled up the shaft, if it's up in the bump stop it needs a bit of stiffening up, if it's still very close to the shock body, then soften it.

When you get this sorted, note the figures down and use this as your 'base' and mark it all up with tippex. You can always adjust later and if it feels wrong aim back towards the 'base' settings.

Hope this helps.

Excellent stuff, I want to retain the -35mm ride height that i've been using with the Spax set up as it gives nice clearance to get into my garage and rides nicely with the 16's :)

Ive been really impressed by my gaz coilovers, lots of travel on them, hit a speedbump once on one side and it just soaked it up no problems. Worked well on track recently at Oulton too. Good value for money imo.

jumping on this thread, i have standard suspensions all round but have lowered the rear and put -50mm apex springs on the front. Its very bouncy and jumpy - not a good ride. Might just be the shocks are all past it or is this how they are on standard shocks?

What the best shocks to go for, for a good smoother ride?

I have koni sport with -30mm springs with the torsion bar lowered to match, all roun Very good on a road car, great over the bumps and down the lanes and i still have a little mor dampening adjustment left. Only prob is that you need to get them made takes about 4weeks.
