Carb overhaul

My car is running okay but i was thinking it would return better mpg if i overhaul the carb. i dont know when it was last done but i am thinking of giving it ago. i have read the article and it don't seem that bad. is it straightforward to do? and will my mpg improve?

If the throttle plate shaft is worn and the green seals are ovalised then air may leak in there and affect the mpg.

If the bottom of the carb is no longer flat then air may leak in there.

With mine I 'blocked off' the carb base faces and and perhaps the bottom face of the middle section (using wet and dry around a metal bar in CTM's cleaning bath) and fitted new gaskets and new green seals and the mpg went from about 19 to 25mpg. Didn't last though.
