View Full Version : Breaking renault 5 gt turbo or £1200 for complete car - Romford
I am breaking the renault 5 gt turbo I have. My friends car which I have wanted for years has suddenly come up for sale so I'm breaking this unless someone offers the 1200 I can break it for. It has a 2 litre laguna 8v engine in it. It was all working when I collected it but the battery has shorted on the chassis and now needs the earth checking.
Parts available:
2 x blue safety device 4 point, 3" thick aero style buckle harnesses.- 150
Blue and black bucket reclining bucket seats with adjustable subframes on decent corbeau frames- 200
15" wolfrace multifit wheels. PCD of 4 x100 and 4 x 108. 2 decent 195/50/15 tyres and 195/45/15 tyres- 150
Stainless backbox- 45
MINT near enough brand new original valeo foglights- 50 the pair
There will be all the other bits and pieces for sale but these are the main ones I can think of at present. All bits will be available though. Pictures to follow and items based in Romford, Essex. (07787102728)

What suspension have you got
suspension wise I will have to check. I think its standard with lowering springs up front.

I could put to be realistic I could make more money splitting it. I have people interested in a rolling shell, non rolling shell with just body parts so I am hoping myself that it will live on elsewhere.
Right for a quick sale I will take 1200 for it. Thats as the car stand. 95k on the clock, 5 months tax and 9 months mot.

Its actually already provisionally sold to another member pending collection this week but if falls through I will let you know:)

Also I have been told the bonnet is carbon but been sprayed, the previous owner phoned up wanting to buy the complete car back off me!

how much is bonnet? is is defo fibreglass or carbon of some sort?
What has it come to when cars like that with some history and a lot of time, effort and money poured into them are just destroyed for a small profit.
That was Rach's car, I recall her saying the shell was fully seam welded or stitch welded.
That then was the 2 litre engine Mike Spencer did as the first step toward offering a lowish cost 2 litre turbo conversion. He searched high a low for available existing parts to make that and he and I very nearly fitted it to my car but he was living in the midlands with her at the time so that was more convenient.
He asked me just a few weeks ago what happened to that car. If I'd known it was for sale I'd have been straight over for a very close look. With the turbo finally fitted and the ECU re-mapped, that may have been one of the most rigid and fasted 5GTT's around. And I thought, quite good looking (once the spoiler, lights and bonnet were changed for matching colour ones).
Really, no wonder this club has been shrinking as fast as it has. So few people give a cr*p about anything that matters. Really just makes me want to give up and move on.
I was talking to someone this week who broke 300 5GTTs. He wanted to buy and scrap mine.
Mark the bonnet went with the car I am afraid.
Ian thank you very much for you comment. Maybe alot of time and effort has been put into the car but I was unaware of this at the time due to not being around when the old owner was on the forum and when this was built as I was probably too young.
I was just lucky enough the person I bought it off not to know what he was selling and got it at a very good. For one this is not my problem as at the end of the day he should have done his research and two he told me how much he wanted and was just happy that it was sold due to not being school friendly for his child and everyday use.
I did offer it complete on the forum and other sites but NOT 1 person come forward to actually even enquire about the car but as soon as I offered it in parts everyone jumped on it and I was selling parts left, right and centre like nothing. I think so far 85% of the parts sold already have been to forum members and so has the shell. It has not been scrapped and its actually gone to a member who shell is VERY rotten. So in my opinion the shell will live on and so will all the parts to other forum members so what is wrong with that? Ok I am make a profit out of selling the parts but I am not forcing people to buy them.

I personally didn't want to break my car either and I couldnt give it away at £3500. So I pulled off the A list parts and sold the shell to a local member and I'm at nearly £5500.
No one seems to want a complete car right now but everyone wants to improve their current one. I thought it would take me months to sell my parts and a hundred trips to the post office, but I cleared it all in a weekend and only posted 3 items. I wouldn't have let my shell go to scrap but I also won't burden myself with a car I no longer want over morals.
Agree Mark will probably have the same situation when i sell the cup car,the parts are more desirable than a complete car to people,although i wouldn,t advertise it on here to be honest Pistonheads or Race cars direct.

How is it morally wrong!?!? So you would sell a car for less money complete to keep your morals in tack instead of selling it in bits? As said NOT ONE person come forward who was interested in the 1200 I wanted for it so I have done what I have done to make the money back. Yes I have made more than 1200 back and how does that matter to you? As Mark said above no one wants to buy complete modified cars anymore and I think that fact that it had a 2 litre 8v laguna engine put alot of people off this as most people want the old trust c1j engine. Also now days everyone is going back to O.E and the colour etc put alot of people off due to it being non standard.
Morally wrong to break a car?? :laugh: if it was a exceptionally mint o.e condition gtt then it would be silly, but lets face it the blue gtt in this thread was nowt flash really. Its not asif the shell has gone for scrap anyway??
If i ever decided to get rid of my van it would probably get stripped for parts. Ill be honest id never sell it cheap and watch somebody destroy it.

I've seen what some idiots out there do when they buy your pride and joy and trust me i won't be making same mistake again so when i'm done with my red 5 it'll be sold in bits too

my orange one will go in parts too, even though its perfectly sound car.. unfortunately no one wants to pay what its worth, however as soon as you split it into chunks, boom u get ur money back.
as sad as it is, for every one scrapped, ours become rarer and more valuable.
just think when there are only a handfull left the humble gtt will be priced up like a turbo 2 :laugh:

the first time i've attempted anything like an engine swap or building a car but i've given it a shot and all seems well for now,

If its a running and road worthy r5 then its a good r5.. its the great things about these cars , people give you respect for just having one, it dosent need to be pin straight or have the most healthy engine in the world.

:agree: like any classic car you have you get that. You see so many road legal 5s being broken which is a shame but like has been said it just increase the value of these more, especially OE ones :D might try sell mine for £13k later on this year :D
