I was messing around in the engine bay today and noticed one of manifold nuts looked loose!! On further investigation I found one was nearly off and another two were really loose! Can't have been doing much good! What's the easiest way to get to the nuts??

Makes me wonder if this is why my car has been running lean?!

You need to add several additional ball joints to your arms and grow eyes on the ends of your fingertips!

You can get to them with various selections of sockets, extensions and spanners but, you will need to get in from different locations like LHS of the engine bay, both under and over the turbo, from the RHS of the engine bay between the brake servo and manifold. You may also need to get under the car to reach up to the underside of the exhaust manifold.

It's probably easier to take the cylinder head off with the manifolds attached but may require a new head gasket?

TBH it's almost easier to remove the whole engine & g/b.. Pig of a job! but is do-able when in the car.
Like said, you'll need to get at them from every angle.. Also make sure you do the ones that can't be got at when the other's are tight, as i found out once

I had to do this a Pod last year. my exhaust manifold cracked so removed it a took it to a mate locally to weld up, took about an 1hr to get it of, 2hrs to put it all back..

when i did mine i just removed the carb and a few other bits in the area. Then like said just with a selectiom of sockets and extensions, from all angles, turbo end and arm underneath etc i got it done, hmmm i was only 18 or 19 when i did mine though so was probably easier with smaller arms lol

You can get most of them not too bad but there will be awkward ones. i found the middle ones tended to stay tight it was the nuts at either end that backed off?

make sure ur studs are all the way in....dont cross thread!!get ur anti perc out of the way...put a new manifold gasket on while ur at it.....if its the webbed later type exhaust then its a pig but do-able!
