With the stock aei you are stuck with the Renault factory ignition map, with this you can fully map the ignition.

Std was meant to work with a std cam std turbo std boost pressure and 4 star leaded petrol. not many of which are usually used today :D
This is interesting as when mappable ignition has been discussed in the past it was dismissed as hardly worth bothering with. Recently however we've had a couple of members say how, having installed it, what a valuable a mod it has been for them.
Perhaps previously one of the problems was cost vs benefit and it may still be a valid argument (circa £400 incl mapping time), but it appears that those with the money to spend on it seem very happy with the result.
IIRC, installing this such that it will allow future use with EFI would be the way to go.
I'm interested to hear more about exactly what benefits mappable ignition is providing. Driveability? Throttle response? Wider torque range? Etc?
The truth of it is this:
The standard renix usually works fine enough at making good HP since the part of map that it looks at at full boost is usually adequate. The standard renix is not optimized for a performance engine build since it's timing at lower RPM's, off boost and at part throttle are optimized for a T2 turbo and standard cam and compression ratio. Changing cam, turbo, compression and other things greatly affect how much spark advance the engine needs at different load points in order to be optimal.
The gamble is that some engines (maybe smaller turbo engines with standard or higher than standard compression) may not benefit as much as a low compression, T28 equiped engine.
So in terms of out and out performance, there probably isn't much to be gained. You could make the TDC sensor adjustable and find a safe level of timing that way instead. But if you're fed up of the flat response of your low compression, big turbo engine at 2000-3000rpm for example then it will be just the thing for you.
Aside from any performance gain it means you can loose the distributor and use a modern coilpack. That will help anyone struggling with spark strength (those struggling with misfires at high boost, etc).
No BS here guys, as always :)

chris did you get back to back graphs of the before and after with carls car?
chris did you get back to back graphs of the before and after with carls car?
Not this time sorry, we had no time for that.
To help Andy out I have bought his brand new MegaJolt kit which he was due to have installed and tuned here in the coming weeks. He has had to focus on getting his car rot-free instead.
So, if anybody fancies ditching the distributor and having a programmable ignition installed and mapped then please let me know. I will not have the time until May perhaps. Cost will be around £500.

many thanks to chris for buying this from me. this is no doubt an amazing mod for anyone running a larger turbo etc etc, and a great drive in drive out price. This is something ill 100% be getting done once my car is sorted.
I used to use Megajolt on my turbo mini before I went to Adaptronic. Have to say it was one of the best mods I ever did to make the old A series more drivable :) I was going to fit it to my gt but sold it to buy more parts!
