View Full Version : No bling at the 'Ring 2012 ?
The current lap prices are a tad on the high side, fuel looks to be on the rise (again :dearme:), and it's never the cheapest of weekends away at the best of times, but :D just thought I'd put the feelers out anyway to see what interest there'd be for a visit to the green hell around Autumn time?

You & your pals are very welcome mate.
Not sure on exact dates yet, but probably late September/early October - School holidays/August traffic well out the way, yet not as cold & the shorter days of November onwards.
October has always been good to us weather wise

 Not sure if any Autumn TF dates have been released yet, but as per my reply to TK above, there's a closed trackday there on Monday 8th October - Not cheap mind you, but it's limited numbers, no public, and you get the full Dottinger Hohe straight.
The company that runs it is Destination Nurburgring if you want any more info about the day.
Seriously considering it, but it's gonna cost a monkey... :(
I'll be round the corner at Spa from 11th to 14th October ;)
8th could be an interesting option :D
Bloody heck, Mr Dave! Where you been hiding for the past few years?! :D
Good to see you back on here mate :)
booked and paid may 04th 5 days....then a few weeks after spa f1(if it goes ahead) and 3 days at nurburg......im up 4 october time...as long as someone else does the organising ;)
If we get the numbers, I'll happily organise the trip :) 'If' is the keyword though...

Would love to drag the track car round the ring, not sure it I would get many laps before I got kicked off - not road legal, engine sticking out of the bonnet, no headlights LOL
Really hoping to get back over next year, been a few years now :( prob better to take one of the vx220 audi conversion over when completed :coffee:
Enjoy the trip boys
DG
So in short, that's a no then Duncan? :D
Steve, I can't do B.H weekend as the folks are now coming up here.
Would still love to get back out there for a weekend this year though :)

Yeah its a fail :(, struggled to get to ND let alone trek over europe with a trailer lol
Time to catch up woth car projects before family holiday this year. Then hopefully get a few local track days in later part of the year
DG
Not decided yet on when or if popping over there, depending on time off and cars etc. But would be good to go over there again just for the weekend and maybe stop off at a few other places along the way. But definitely need a holiday this year.

Like Sunday mornings, I'm easy.
I should be good to go with this
Hello chaps, I would love to do this. How much will it cost etc?? Plus I'm up norf :p

Depends on if you want to drive down South and get the ferry / eurotunnel or get the overnight ferry from York. Its just over 300 miles once in France to the Nurburgring, but petrol is not cheap over there, but euro exchange is getting better so haven't worked out the price lately, but was around 1.65 euro per litre over there for petrol. Then beer and food wise is reasonable prices, depends on how hungry or thirsty you are, then its just per laps which depending on how many you want to do, might be worth looking at a group of 4 laps which comes in at 90 euros I think now.
So it's looking at around 600 quid maybe?? How much has it cost in past weekends etc...
So it's looking at around 600 quid maybe?? How much has it cost in past weekends etc...
Well from when I have gone in the past
£150 on fuel
£40 ferry
£120 room - 3 nights
£40 laps - only ever done 2 laps
£150 - £200 food and drink - mainly drink
If going with another person first lot can be halved
£175 each + the £150 to £200 drinks which works out £325 to £375
But you will be slightly more fuel or ferry. But you may not drink as much or eat as much.
But well worth the trip as have enjoyed every single one of them even if my mate wrote my car off
Ohhhh man. That's bad pal, does insurance vary with driving abroad etc?? Take it each are different. Car wise, race brake pads, r888's for tyres??
It was on the nurburgring so insurance doesn't cover it, his bank balance did though. But you need to notify your insurance company that you are driving abroad, they normally give you 90 days cover each year in europe, not on the nurburgring though as they normally put 1 way toll road, which this is the only one in the world as far as I am away.
As for tyres pads its just any other track day really but advise not pushing it as hard due to the distance it needs to go back, or unless you trailer it which will soon add up the costs a lot more but you do have added benefit if anything does go wrong as europe road cover will normally just go to a garage rather than back to england. I towed a car back from Hermany when their circlip went in their gearbox on the 172. Shouldn't have really as illegal towing on motorways let alone the money he gave me for my trouble
As for driving over there there are a lot of changes as well with what to carry in the car, even down to France you need to now carry two breathalizer tests :crap:
Jesus! That's hard core, thanks for the info pal.

Just go josh, u wont regret it... Even If you don't venture on the track... Even if you do go on track you don't need to blast it around :)

I'd really love too mate. Trust me if i went on the track I'd definitely rinse it. Go hard or go home. if I broke my car in Germany id cry. So if I do go it will probably for the convoy and. The laugh with the lads.
Thought I'd bring this back up top as potentially anyone going would need to start looking into ferry/ Eurotunnel fares, accommodation.
Been looking at Touristfarhen dates and these seem like ok weekends, open the longest during the weekend. Based on these it means they're only 5-6 weeks away
29.09.2012 (Sa) 17:30–19:00 h (CET)
30.09.2012 (So) 08:00–19:00 h (CET)
01.10.2012 (Mo) 13:00–19:00 h (CET)
05.10.2012 (Fr) 17:00–19:00 h (CET)
06.10.2012 (Sa) 13:00–19:00 h (CET)
07.10.2012 (So) 08:00–19:00 h (CET)
Is anyone still looking at going? Based on the weekend of the 29th a ferry crossing booked today is £60, Eurotunnel £107
Well its right in the weeks got off for holidays, but not sure if drinking all inclusive holiday with somewhere hot yet or see if another driving holiday is wanted so might be able to do either weekend if going.

September's a no go for me now mate, and I can't commit to an October visit until much nearer the time. If I do, I v much doubt it'll be in the Jap taxi.
Realistically it'll be Easter-onwards next year, unless anyone fancies a snowy Winter weekend out there again? :D
FAIL, so no celebrating 5 years of No Bling :sad2:

Is it not road legal? It's just a toll road effectively so it just follows regular rules AFAIK :agree:
