Best way to drain the fuel tank

Been give some advice on how to get my car started again (http://www.rtoc.org/boards/showthread.php?t=26650) and it says I should put new petrol in. I'll need to drain the tank first and just wonedered if there are any top tips on the best way to do this on the 5? Or is it still the old "suck on the end of a garden hose"? (NO JOKES HAHA)

How old is the petrol in your car?

And how much is in there mate?

Pull the fuel line off at the carb. Stick it in a jerry can or suitsble container. Remove the fuel pump relay from the fusrbox and bridge the red snd ehite wires. Your pump will then run constsntly and empty the tsnk. Mske sure you dont let the pump run dry though

The above method is what I was going to suggest :-)

But if the fuel isn't that old and there isn't too much of it, just chuck a load of fresh stuff in with it. This worked fine on mine. And keep topping it up.

A bit less hassle than bridging the fuel pump relay then mate :)

Id just try and start it on whats in the tank. If it wont go put some fresh in

Mine had been stood for ages when i come to restart mine mate i just put some fresh in and its sweet now! going to replace the fuel filter soon though i think

My car was stood for 5 years when I bought it, turned the key it started drove it home no probs.

LiamR the car has been sitting for around 4 years so I'm not sure how much petrol is in it, doesn't help that I've removed the clocks so can't even heck that, I wouldn't have thought there would be much in it.

SCHWARTZ and w35ty seem to have had success just starting theirs again after ages so I might just stick some more petrol in it and give it a go. What is the worst that could happen???

One thing putting me off draining it is where to dispose of it!

Pop a load of new in and go from there. I hadn't started mine for six years.
Popped in 10 litres of unleaded and it was fine.

It wont be ideal petrol, just top it up a bit with some new stuff and fingers crossed :agree:
