dvla/registration numbers

ok so you have a new rego put on your car,what happens to the old one?
if its just the original number and nothing special do they hang on to it or sell it on?
i was thinking about getting my original plate back on the car is that at all possible?

Sometimes I believe you can retain the original reg no, would check with DVLA to see if you can put it back on the car if no one else has it :)

DVLA will allocate you the original plate back :agree: unless it has already been allocated to another vehicle [askmid to see if insured :devil:].
If it was a standard plate then unlikely that it has been relocated as the years pass they wont allocate an older ‘YEAR/REG’ unless the plate was special in anyway / sought after and was specifically requested by someone…
Best to give them a quick call or pop into one of their offices...:smokin:
