Hi guys,

Just a quickie, can one of you please advise me which belt drives the Water Pump on a Clio 182 F4R engine??

Is it the Aux Belt :D or is it the Cam Belt :crap:

Aux belt:agree:

Doesn't the cam belt go around the cam pulley's down aroud the pre tensioner, and pullet then around crank.

Aux belt goes crank, power steering, air con pump, water pump (prob not in that order as working of the top of my head from F4r and F7p)

found some pic's attached

Aux belt for sure, I have just done one, a right fecking pain to do as well, cambelt was easy in camparison if you have the A/C model & not cup version :crap:

Panic over!! :D Thanks for all your help guys!!! :niceone:

Had a message from Millie last night saying "My car heater is broken & it's making a funny noise" Immediately thought it had run out of coolant (heater not working) and the water pump had ran itself dry (funny noise)

Just got home & checked the car over. Sure enough it's out of coolant but it turns over & runs ok without any horrible noises.

Re-filled with coolant and ran it for a while & found it pi$$ing out the bottom of the rad somewhere (that's this weekends activities sorted)

Had visions of having to change the water pump etc etc....! :crap:

Thankfully not this time!! :yeah:

I will say keep an eye on the servicing, definatly do the cambelt & aux belt with all tensioners when they are supposed to be done, also on 2nd belt change do the dephaser...
So many stories of belt failure (nearly always the tensioners though)

I picked up an 04 172 with a failed cambelt, a tensioner had colasped & done 12 valves :crap: I had the head rebuilt by a friend & put it all back together with new belts & not the dephaser, wish I had read about it before now as I'd have done it tbh.. when it warms up it rattles a little on idle :crap::crap: I'm going to do an oil change but I am betting I'll have to do the dephaser  at least I should just be able to lock it all up & do it in situ without removing the aux belt.... or so I hope.

Remember boys....there are two types of F4R, the last 3 digits of the engine type will tell you if its Cam belt or Aux belt driven.

Matt are you on about the F4R 730?

Some Lagunas have F4Rs fitted...

Sorry to hear about the Rad Steve... As long as the engines OK that'll be an easy fix.

I snapped the belt on mine in the 5 at the hairpin at Mallory and boiled the engine down the pit straight and blew the expansion cap... Topped it up and it was good as new, the head gaskets are fairly bullet proof!

F4R is the engine code for all 172/182's
738 is for the 182
730 are for the mk1 172 (Some Mk1's use the 732 engine with a manual throttle body).
732 is for the 172 Cups
732 and 736 are for the mk 2 172's

All F4R's run the waterpump from the aux belt, its F4RT's that run the waterpump off the cam belt.
